Site Updates / Re: Cease & Desist Letter
« on: May 10, 2009, 05:58:57 am »
I feel sorry for what happened to you guys. I really wanted to play Crimson Echoes, but I guess I won't be able anymore. I believe this teaches us to keep all the material secret until release, so that Square (the bitch) can't do anything to bring projects down with their stupid C&D letters. Their the copyright, their the idiocy.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Re: 8th Playable Character Possible?! (Updating!)

Move the small portraits where the Japanese 8x8 font begins, then move the bigger ones where the small ones used to be. This should give you plenty of space, tho I'm not sure what you can do with the OAM palettes.

Chrono Cross Modification / Re: Chrono Cross game script discussion/investigatio(If there's not a topic already)
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:45:11 am »English sentences are usually longer than Japanese in bytes, so perhaps that's the reason why they use that in most cases. The only real limit they had was in memory, but as far as I can tell from the memory configuration, there was plenty space to keep it all. Maybe the actual reason was laziness to translated all those little variations. Most cases of those are in fact absent from the American script.

Several areas contain crap like that, or even separate dialogue for each character, while the American version uses stringed dialogue in most cases (except for a very few scripts). I believe such changes were "necessary" for a better memory management. As for <FFFF>, it's not really a kanji, but more like a dummy symbol (-1).

Way too small. That would work well as an 8x8 font in a menu, not for dialogue.

Could be hard coded. Many games like to do shit like that. :/

Very nice indeed. A big improvement over the original.

Well, unless you find a decent way to expand the game by A LOT to allow the whole multi-language script, it's impossible to do. And even in the case you find a way to expand it correctly, it will still be a pain in the ass to hack all the functions to read multiple data.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Re: Chrono Trigger US/Finnish Question (Being Fixed)

Consider that most of them are due to (VERY) badly organized data for each module (there should be 4, if memory doesn't fail me). For example, in the in-game menu there are over 100kb used for NPC compressed gfx, which are completely unused. The other problem is seek time, since data is scattered all over the CD, without a decent method to glue them together when they are needed, so the game jumps a lot through the disc, making everything slower to load. >_>

Loadings aren't really a problem. I know a way or two to fix them.

I doubt anybody'd whine at something correct. You'd actually get the opposite reaction by leaving incorrect names. :p After all Thunder≠Lightning. And this game is somewhat based on FF, so I don't really see the problem.
