General Discussion / Re: My system is better than...
« on: May 11, 2006, 10:18:08 pm »
Mmm...never have I seen such a sexy line-up. Mostly found in the DS, but the other systems are still present. I originally felt like PS3 stole the Wii design, but when I consider it, they are not exactly FOCUSING on the directional system. Wii will still hold the design in motion-based games I am sure. I'd rather use one handed controller than two. I have a feeling 360 will be doing well, their line-up seems good. But that's a problem, all of the damn consoles have nice line-ups. It'll end up being me just pulling them out of a hat in choices.  This next list is of the exciting games I am after.

Phantasy Star Universe
I’ve been waiting for this for a LONG time. I love the intro music and the movie I saw on G4. I seriously am excited to all hell for this. Phantasy Star Online was too much fun and now that they switched to server-based systems, less hackers then previously seen, which makes for a fun time. The new system is appearing to be exciting, especially with a FPS mode for the long-range weapons.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I’ve only seen small pieces of this but I can safely say I am all over it. Already, four new characters are released. Wario (WarioWare version), Pit (Kid Icarus), MetaKnight (Kirby), and a big surprise found in Solid Snake. And this isn’t the end of the new characters, because there is going to be sixty characters said to be found in this one. So, this one is gonna be kept close to my heart.

Halo 3
Looks good, real-time movie. ‘nuff said.

The major consoles have other games in them that are awesome too, but like I said, DS.

Yoshi’s Island 2
That very name should invoke an ecstasy in the awesome.
Final Fantasy III
Looks better then that crappy Final Fantasy VII, but hey, what doesn’t?
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
I swear, make it as good as Dawn of Sorrow or someone’ll be beaten.

Well, I could write more, but what games hold your interest? After all, who cares about the new systems if all the games suck?

So what you are saying is all this time Spekkio was the catalyst of Chrono Trigger

Oh my, no. Beyond Lavos itself, I can't think of a SINGLE catalyst to the game. I mean, so much worked with it. The pendant, The Gurus, Zeal, everything.

I liked Edward Teach myself. The man lit his beard on fire and gave out a horrifying bellow as a battle cry. Legend said when he died, he was stabbed by some soldier and he said 'Good work, lad!" and then was decapitated. He was the pirate for me.

(Edward Teach = Blackbeard)

I only like one type of game and I have two ratings.

We have Fun and NotFun.

Fun can be found in many games. In Castlevania DS, in Super Mario Bros. 3, in Zone of Enders 2:Second Runner, Psychonauts, and Katamari Damacy.

NotFun can be found in many games too, such as Madden, ET for the Atari, and in that 50 Cent video game.

All of these games are of various rankings by the ESRB rating system, ranging from E - M. I don't see the problem with anyone liking any style of game. If you like GTA and the 'urban mafia' type of genre, then great. If you like whimsical fun magical platformers, just as great. I like having all of the systems because in all of the systems I can find something I like. Sometimes though, it isn't an option and you have to choose. Just because you chose an XBox over a PS2, doesn't necessarily mean it is superior to the other. A 'Kiddy system' like Gamecube had plenty of games I enjoyed. Baten Kaitos, Wind Waker, Luigi's Mansion and isn't it interesting, that neither of those are holding a Mature rating? Just because something does not have a Mature rating by the ESRB does not make it a game for kids only. If I am a teenager, I am not stuck with playing only those games because that's what the rating says.

I am going to buy a game just because it is fun. Mario is still fun for me, because the game I buy is fun. Megaman is fun for me, because the game is fun. Final Fantasy is fun for me, because the game I buy is fun. Madden isn't fun for me, because the game isn't fun. They can't slap any label on that to change it. They can't suddenly slap a label on anything to make it fun. Why did that crappy paintball shooter suck? It had the liscense of the official paintball company/whatever. The reason? It wasn't fun to begin with. Just because you have a 'childish' image with it, it doesn't become lame all of a sudden. Mario is in no way by anyone's definition of 'mature', but yet it still sells really well. How can this be?

Because it is fun.

Wii will be for kids and kids who want to play mario with two hands and a foot.  But for the young adluts and older people who have been used to the feel of the PS2, I think I know what they will buy.

Yes, because of course as we all know, it's not like Ubisoft will magically appear and make an FPS involving the Yakuza and you trying to save your wife from deranged Japanese Mafia members, utilizing a gun or anything. I mean, that's simply UNHEARD of.

Oh wait.

You're able to say with a straight face that that type of game are "for kids and kids who want to play mario with two hands and a foot"? Well, shoot me dead, I coulda sworn that type of genre was kinda dark. The sort of dark you would find in something like, oh...Black? And that came out for the PS2 I recall? This is the first game for the Wii that was revealed. I wouldn't really call it to be a "kid-system". If they at least give the that third-party developer option a shot, I have a feeling they will supply the variety you need.

"Mature" has different meanings to different people.  What mature means to me is simple, something that is not catagorized as being childish, or something that 5 year old kids can do.
I find Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga to be one of the best RPGs on my list. It is genuinely funny, it is fun, and it's for a great system. According to you, this RPG is not a mature product. True. The original RPG, which SquareEnix worked on, it was 'childish', because it had Mario in it I presume? So, it's not mature either? Megaman X, a game that uses the same thing as Mario by placing in the same character over and over, is childish in your eyes perhaps? Yet, it involves terrorism and war. But since a five year old and children can play it, this is probably best left avoided?

In closing (and back on topic),
Once E3 comes and passes, opinions certainly can change. If we are really going to get in some discussion of which one might be superior we'll need to see what games they are going to use.

Hell, if we are REALLY going to discuss, we'll need to wait for them to come out and buy them to see.

I'd prefer the Wii and 360 thankew. If PS3 will do what me and my friends think it might do, we're gonna take a step back and avoid it for the most part. We've heard rumors of that Blue-Ray disc thing will make the HDD react to the disc so you'll be unable to share discs.  It'll just take the game information so you can't play any other version of the game or the game itself unless you use that one disc. If they go through with that, I'm not even going to touch it.

Although, if that isn't the case, it will still be Wii->360->PS3. Wii for the fact that I have faith that the controller can do marvelous things. (Two ports in the controller that can be used for most anything? Virtual Reality headsets anyone? Dual-wielding guns?) 360 because I am curious of its RPG line up which looks pretty good to me. PS3 comes in last, only because it likes to carry a big fat 800 dollar cost. I certainly will want it when Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out, but before then, nothing appeals. For the most part, I want all the systems of every current generation (except the Xbox, I have a vendetta against that.). I still want to get a PSP in the event their line up becomes a little more appealing then what they have now. As of late, I couldn't care about my consoles. KH2 has passed and the most fun I have is on my DS.

In fact, forget the new systems. I just want more DS games.

Anyone else feel that Ubisoft might as well have given us a crayon drawing by a two-year old instead? When that damn car-wreck came out I was as excited as could be.

"Oh boy! This sure is swell! This music is terrific!"

1 hour later...

"Hey. Why's my health going down when I run? . . ."

2 hours later...

"Whoa whoa whoa. What is this? A spelling error? Wait, there's another. There's fifty spelling errors in this."

3 hours later...

"This dialogue makes no sense. This story makes no sense! This whole game is an insult to me!"

4 hours later...

"Yes, I'd like to return this." /buy Psychonauts "Thank you very much."

That about sums up my experience with this game. The design was not fun. The battles were slow and not exciting. They were so slow and not exciting, that they had to add two fast forward options like in Chrono Cross, except worse. They gave two modes. Either you get experience or you get items. You want money? Too bad. Do some work and un-fun quests so you can actually afford that weaponry and armor. It became an MMORPG in that sense and if I wanted that, I'd go play an MMORPG. In regular RPGs you are SUPPOSED to find 2000 gold pieces on a decaying demon rat that's the size of a shetland pony.  But no, I can handle it. I can handle it.

But there is one thing that is completely unforgivable.

The Spelling Errors.

Like a shock of electricity, it comes at you and it comes at you quick. It gets to the point of no longer being the cute 'this guy are sick' type of errors. These are the errors that you find in the 12-year old KOL Chatrooms. LOL-WTF-N00B is spilled everywhere on this. You literally have issues everywhere in this. One scene cannot pass without ten or more errors.

Honestly, the only part of the original team they got were the guys who were working in the janitorial services.

Anyways, anyone who can agree on this fiasco or disagree?

(And I'm not here to start PSP/DS wars. If you're looking for that then start something new, because frankly, I don't give a damn.)

Ah, right.

Well, I never liked the third battle anyways. The music was nowhere as good as the second fight with Lavos, which in my opinion was the best. Especially music-wise.

I know. The view heavily villainizes him, but I don't see why he should care entirely for the fate of the planet.

I don't think he actually LOSES, but decides you've proven your worth. Sorta like in any RPG when you fight someone who's really stronger than you by thousands or has limitless HP or something, but they quit when you've given it your all.

I was under the impression that the bit heals the main part.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Re: Spekkio...

I may sound rather naive in believing this idea, but I think what Spekkio said was true. Maybe he's simply the God of War. He's just ended up at the End of Time, not to say other gods don't exist there either, just not at the 'Trainstop of Time' (It kinda reminds me of a train stop.). The reason I think he gave magic to the people of Zeal, (Prometheus and the gift of fire) is because he wants some bloodshed. War is good for him, peace isn't.  Obviously he knew that if Zeal never gained magic, Queen Zeal would have never have had her engineers have the skill to make the Mammon Machine. (Zeal is floating due to some magical enchantment. No enchantment can be made beyond magic, I think that can be agreed upon.) No Mammon Machine, no draining of Lavos, no conflict. And not just conflictless in 12,000 BC, but also in 600 AD. If Janus is not launched, the Mystic War is almost ruined. By having all the warships and stuff being made, it gave him pleasure/brownie points/etc.

Now, someone may ask, if he did that, why did he give Crono and the group magic to begin with? Simply put, that is good for business too. To give them magic, he gives more tools to use for killing. I know he isn't the god of the underworld, but war is war and conflict and strife seems to work in all that. But he can't exactly do it himself. If he goes and fights people (besides the small-scale battles with him and the party) then he probably won't get the kind of pleasure he would otherwise.

I think he is strong enough to take on Lavos, but if he did take on Lavos, then there would be no reason for all the strife. Crono and co. would not have their magic, they would not have went back in time beyond saving Marle and the future would have been all sunshine and smiles when they visited. Now who wants that beyond our heroes? Spekkio probably doesn't. Spekkio probably couldn't care beyond filling in his quota of war/peopledead/etc.

Unless my memory is bad and Spekkio was the god of something else.
