I definitely don't think it's worth getting, with the exception of what Boo said. The new features are somewhat insulting, but oh well. If you've only played the Playstation version then it might worth it to enjoy playing w/o load times. Other than that, it's skippable.

I'm working on a song and I specifically need the sound effect for Luminaire. I found this site: http://www.rpgplanet.com/chrono/ct_sound.shtml and it has a couple effects but not Luminaire. I Googled it to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate it.

I actually just played through the Ocean Palace incident and noticed something interesting. When the red knife transforms into the Masamune, an odd cone effect flashes upwards for a second. When Magus stabs Lavos in the mouth, the same effect occurs. Coincidence? Probably. Interesting nonetheless.

« on: August 08, 2008, 03:25:41 pm »I still say it's somehow the Masamune...or some other Dreamstone weapon, at least, that he figured would work well against Lavos, since the Masamune drained his own Magic Defense (& then the Magic energy stored by the Mammon Machine)...The three things are inherently linked: Lavos, Magic & Dreamstone.That's what I've been saying for years! Well... that's what I said years ago and no one seemed to listen. (If I recall...) Anyway, I agree with you because the "stick" in question is red. We never see Magus use a red weapon ever again. I thought it was possible he retrieved the Masamune out of the M. Machine before heading to the Pocket Dimension. Magus might have thought the sword would be at the height of its power right after being "created."

I began reading the Principles of Time Travel article and my brain started to bleed, so I stopped. I have a quick question about the relativity of gates, though I'm not entirely sure how to word it. Do the gates go to a set point in time? Do the gates have a certain "length" in terms of time? None of the above?
The gate at the Millenial Fair connects 1000 AD and 600 AD. So does the gate just bring you 400 years forward or backward? This might make sense. Marle goes back in time and is discovered by soldiers in the mountains, let's say it's August 8th at 12:00. Crono goes back in time, and it is clearly not August 8th at 12:00. Marle has had enough time to get back to the castle, and everyone in town is aware. So in this situation, it would seem that the gate doesn't bring you to a specific point in time.
However, on the way back, you always arrive on the last day of the Millenial Fair. Is this point in time fixed? If the temporal destination of gate if fixed, it would mean that the gates are a one-way trip. Otherwise, they would only exist for an instant, and you would only be able to access them for that instant. If they were one-way, you could possibly enter a gate at any time and always end up in the same spot.
This can't be true in most cases, as far as I know, as I already said. Time theory makes my head spin, and it takes quite a lot of mental RAM for me to even comprehend it. What do people think about the gates? Fixed? Relative? Does the entity control the properties of the gates every time they're entered? Is it just a gameplay issue that should be overlooked?

I believe it was called "white gold", and no these has nothing to do with real gold, they just called it that. It had unnatural paranormal properties. I changed it weight every time scientist weighed the exact amount. A spoonful would show a less than the spoon empty by itself. Its also believe that it was a cure-all and once consumed it could cure numerous illnesses. It couldn't be identified and when tested, results were that no substances were present. I believe I read that a man that built the Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida was thought to have use the properties of "white gold" to move huge stone coral into place to make a coral castle. I know I found it somewhere but my attempts to find any relevant data on the substance have been fruitless. I know I found something once because it sparked a conversation with a fellow CT fan, that conversation last about 5 hours.What the HELL are you talking about here??
As for the rest of your thoughts, I think you may be reading into the game too much. After all, that's what it is: a game. The point is to let players enjoy the experience, as opposed to simply relaying a story. Besides button controls, save points are perhaps the most integral in connecting the characters on screen with the player. If we forget that we are playing a game, numerous other questions arise.
Wouldn't they starve to death? The last time the ate was in 65,000,000 BC... and the Enertron leaves them feeling hungry! Not to mention, I haven't once seen a toilet in Chrono Trigger.
There are aspects of games that defy logical, plot-driven explanation. I think save points fall in to that category. Someone else gave an example of the elevator fights in another thread. If you let the fight drag on, it would imply that the Ocean Palace is thousands of floors high. (Unlikely.)
That being said, I did enjoy your post. It's interesting to think about these things. I think your most valid point would be the connection to 'Next.' However, there isn't any mention of foresight in the game, and I think it would have come up at one point if Crono and the gang possessed that ability. In addition, the Ocean Palace incident leaves Crono dead. D-E-A-D. Based on your hypothesis, the save point should kick in, thus stalling the plot.

« on: August 07, 2008, 02:58:42 pm »I think i have a simple idea that might solve these. Frog/Gleen....what you might refer to him as was on his way to save leene, right? If Chrono had not appeared and helped frog then it can be said that eventually he would have fought his way though and save leene returned her. Everyone would be in shock that an imposture is present but it being the middle ages they would have just beheaded Marle. Leene would just take her place again, and the timeline would keep on chucking.
I believe that they called off the search for Leene once Marle arrived because they looked so similar. If Crono didn't appear, I imagine the search would remain cancelled and Marle would be faced with the grim situation (as we've seen in Futurama) of choosing between reproducing with her own ancestor or disappearing from existence. A whole lot of "what if's" present themselves at this point... so let's just be glad Crono shows up.

So it's correlated with the M.Machine as opposed to Schala's specific disappearance.
However, you cannot actually open the boxes until Schala dissapeared, correct? No one knows where Schala went, and It isn't explained until Chrono Cross when she was saved by Serge and fused with Kid.

Yo,
I love Chrono Trigger with every atom of my being but I never completed Cross. I've read the summaries around here but I'm always a little confused. Is there any reason in particular that Serge is chosen to be the Frozen Flame's arbiter? Or is it just because he's the loudest baby ever?
I've been kicking around some ideas for a possible fan fic/fan comic that centers around the idea that Crono, Marle, and Magus are purposely removed from Guardia circa 1005 AD so that Porre is successful in its takeover. (I'm one of the people who is disappointed in the notion that Crono would have been defeated by anyone, let alone stupid shitty Porre.)
So yeah, I need to know why exactly Serge was chosen and not someone else. Isn't Chrono Cross just the process of preparing Serge for the final battle with the Time Devourer? IE, they just needed him to work out?
