Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Chrono Trigger problem on emulator --Need help

I'm at the part of Chrono Trigger that you need to use the L, R, and A buttons in front of a sort of console at Arris Dome after talking with the rat. This problem could just be the file on the emulator, my computer, or a number of other factors, but for some reason, when I try this combination of keys in front of the console nothing happens (as in, it doesn't open the way to the adjacent passage when I try this.). I have the seed, I talked to the rat, and so it should work at this point, correct? Can anyone point out a possible reason for it not working? If you need more information on the problem, I'll tell you if possible. Thank you for any help given.
