Crimson Echoes / Re: Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes Demo 2 Feedback
« on: May 22, 2006, 01:29:59 pm »
Turns out it's not as easy to recreate the bug as I thought, but I figured it out eventually. It turns out it's related to the battle system which is why the beast forest is a good place to test it out. Screencaps were useless to demonstrate it so I used zsnes' video function. (ZsnesWin ver 1.42 if that's important)
http://rapidshare.de/files/21109240/ChronoTrigger.zm5.html
Shows the end of a battle, where I hold b to run, charging right into a wall, which Magus and Lucca keep going till the bottom of the screen. I got magus to run all the way off the bottom and back down from the top once in a test, but that was a fluke.
Looks like it's not really something to worry about since it clears up once you leave and barely affects the battles.

Crimson Echoes / Re: Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes Demo 2 Feedback

I noticed a minor bug when running, which I do pretty often which is why I'm mentioning it. If the character leading the party runs into an obstacle and doesn't auto-correct around it then the ohter party members keep going. Didn't notice it much except when cash-mining the beasts in their forest. Then it's quite obvious.
I also saw a few layering issues, but I can't point out any in particular other than the Nizbel (sp?) fight room. They were ok, but when Magus used lightning 2 it outlined some black areas.
The coliseum was really neat even if it had some balance issues. Easy mode round 1-6= 1 Blue Imp, round 7= 2 Blue Imps. Normal mode seemed better but I should mention the first round starts with 3 imps but 2 disappear when the status window pops up. It also seemed a little odd that the big guy in round 2 can sometimes attack before his imp partner enters the battle. It would be nice if either BP didn't reset or if you earned more by fighting alone than with the party but it probably works better as is.
Schala: Thank you Magusio but your princess is in another version...

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Where is Lavos after 1999 AD?
« on: May 10, 2006, 01:03:58 am »
Awesome, my login is still good.
I like the idea that Lavos is just on another summit that can't be reached, but the earlier post about him not being visible on the world map screen is a good point. I figure he is hanging around in/under/as? the mountain while his spawn gets bigger and stronger and eventually the spawn (or just the damage already done by lavos) will cause a chain reaction and detonate the planet. That would give the spawn a boost, and would make some sort of sense from a reproductive standpoint. Lavos might not want to leave prior to that because reproduction is too tiring or because it's departure might cause damage on the scale of its arrival (some sort of 'wake', ozone hole, whatever). Heck maybe its means of departure would be to detonate the planet by itself, that would be tough for an immature spawn to survive if it cant take a little Flare .
The centralized spawn locations could be partially explained by the needles burrowing into the earth upon impact. Though that doesn't explain why there would be any on Death Peak unless it was thrust out of the ground and forced some spawn to the surface.
As for whether Lavos is a crotchety old man, dies in childbirth (or prior), reproduces by fission, or wants to repeat the process on another world is pretty much all conjecture at this point.

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Enigma Of Sun Stone And Keep
« on: July 08, 2004, 01:15:14 pm »
I don't know if this question deserves it's own topic or not, but here goes: "What happened to the Sun Stone!?"
It is used in the sun shades, wondershot, rainbow, and prism specs and still had enough power to be used for fireworks (how could a man of science abuse such a precious stone by whacking it like an ape?). There is no indication that it ran out of power after that except that no one mentions it.
Maybe it just gets used to heat Guardia castle in winter or something. A more justifiable use of it though might be to forge the Einlanzer. Does CC mention what the Einlanzer is made of?
On a completely unrelated and humorous note; when I defeated the Rust Tyrano and returned to the castle to ask for help Queen Leene begged the king to agree (rough quote): "Please help them, for Magus". He was leading my party at the time.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Magic in CT and CC
« on: July 07, 2004, 04:11:17 pm »
If Spekkio is taken literally and the 4 elements make up everything (ie the Universe) it wouldn't be a big stretch to describe the 6/7 elements as making up the Earth or perhaps just Life as it is on Earth.
Just as carbon et al make up the matter in our universe, plants make fuel out of the elements, and we further manipulate matter into other forms.
Sorry for the poor explanation.
If a plant takes minerals and makes nutrition for a cow, which then turns it into milk, which we then turn into ice cream it is still made up of the original minerals but is now in a much different form with different properties.
To conclude my "Ludicrous Food-Based Theorum" I would like to state that Lavos' power could be described as pure sugar. Very potent, very addictive, very hard to 'digest' in its purest state, and it rots your teeth (or maybe your magical ability/desire/will is warped in such a way that no one exposed to his power would think of manipulating the 4 elements to create the 6/7 element system).

History, Locations, and Artifacts / True nature of Dreamstone
« on: July 07, 2004, 02:45:58 pm »
Ayla's village wasn't the only one however.
The other village had a chief/elder who might have had some dreamstone. Also, the members of that village had purple hair. At some point in time (they had almost 65 million years to try) they could have taken control and then after Zeal fell the Guardia line would have picked up the slack. The members of the non-Ayla village (sorry I can't remember the name) chose to hide from the reptites rather than fight, which may have been an indication of improved mental development (not lavos-based, but maybe a precursor?).
I don't think it is likely but I should mention it anyway, could Lavos's power reached earth a significant amount of time before his arrival?

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Bill & Ted
« on: July 05, 2004, 03:17:37 pm »
I would like to submit for your approval (amusement?) the Bill & Ted theory of time travel.
(Please bear with me as it has been a long time since I last watched it.)
At the end of a movie the villain (sp?) is about to win, but a cage falls directly over him from the roof. Bill & Ted planted it after they won and used the time machine.
Then the villain pulls out a key he left in the cage after he won and used the time machine.
Then he also grabs the spare gun (he lost his previously I believe) which he also planted after winning and using the time machine.
He fires the gun which is just a toy that makes the "Bang" flag pop out.
Bill & Ted explain that only the winner gets to use the time machine and that they planted the key and the gun.
It's a bit of a stretch and goes against the idea of Chrono Trigger and imposing one's free will upon the fabric of time, but maybe since lavos is defeated there is never any question of the Guardia Line's continuity.
(Hmm, even as I wrote this I kept coming up with more ways that it didnt fit properly. I will post it anyway in hope that it will spark something relevant in someone else's mind, but I consider it pre-post-debunked.)
