Magic, Elements, and Technology / Re: The relationship between Magus' magic & Time/Space
« on: July 21, 2006, 01:47:26 pm »Or maybe that he moves so fast that you think that he's warping in front of the enemy. Yeah, I've this move before.
In DBZ-esque style? I don't think so, personally. Arguably, there are faster characters then Magus. Ayla comes to mind or maybe even Crono, and even they don't move so fast that they look as though they were teleporting when they get a critical hit. They could have easily made a critical hit attack animation that involved Magus moving to his target normally like everyone else, but they chose to have him disappear and then reappear in front of the enemy instead.
"Yeah, I've this move before." Was this a typo or something? I'm sorry, I can't understand what you meant by it.

Only on criticals...
Criticals only or no, my point still stands.

« on: July 18, 2006, 06:05:49 pm »That was all well and good except the geneology part. The pendant was made by the Sages of Zeal specifically for Schala, and it's powers come from Lavos.
Oh yeah, I was thinking Schala's family made it for some reason, thanks for the correction! Everybody take out a marker, scroll up and scratch out that paragraph in my post... or just ignore that part of my post. Your choice. I'm feeling too lazy to edit my post.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Re: The relationship between Magus' magic & Time/Space

I think this discussion is heading in the wrong direction. Magus' battle techs are only Magus' abilities that are practical for fighting, they don't encompass all that he's able to do, so personally I see no reason to pick them apart to the point of ringing eachother's collective necks over it.
Here are some of the facts:
Magus, if not all shadow magic users, does at the very least control space.
+Instead of running when the party runs, Magus floats, most likely controlling gravity, or possibly magnatism, to do so.
+Magus summons Lavos. A summon is either the teleportation of a being from one location to the caster's current location on the same plain of exsistence, or the transfer of a being from one plain of exsistence to the caster's current plain of exsistence. Any teleportation is a manipulation of space, displacing something form point A to point B.
+Instead of running or even floating up to enemies that Magus wants to slash with his scythe, Magus does a short teleportation there. As stated above, any type of teleportation is a manipulation of space.
So yes, Magus can manipulate space to a certain degree. Time on the other hand is a trickier thing to figure out, since Magus has never directly used any such technique. We do know a few things, though.
+Magus' Lavos summoning gone wrong does propel everyone to different time eras, however...
-This is probably due to Lavos' involvment, since we know chaotic, time-related things seem to happen whenever
Lavos is around.
-Magus appears stuck in whatever time period the "Gateway Shuffle" throws him. Yes the quotation in the last sentence was a reference to Cowboy Bebop. It seems that Magus is stuck there, but there's always the possibility he always ends up going where he wants to be (at least while he's an adult).
-Magus, disguised as The Prophet, forces his sister to seal a time gate. He does not seal it himself. This may be because he cannot, or it may be because Magus didn't want to blow his cover as The Prophet.
+Magus' genealogy and the magical abilities of his family members is a strong indication, however, that Magus may be able to manipulate time. His sister holds a necklace, either made by her or her ancestors, that is capable of manipulating the time gates. Reasonably, Magus being of the same family means that he quite posibbly could have the same potential.
+At the end of the game (the standard ending) if you have Magus in your party, Lucca assumes that Magus is going to go look for his sister (or, that's the implication anyway). Lucca is extremely intelligent and would probably know whether Magus were capable of doing so or not.
So, like many things in CT, there is some flimsy evidence for both sides of the argument.

General Discussion / Re: did anyone else think that ff7 and the chrono games had alot in common
« on: May 14, 2006, 06:13:06 pm »never cared-for/played FF7
As you all may well know, I'm no fan of FFVII...BUT...is it just me, or does that statement not make sense?
Yeah. Play it before you knock it. Some people didn't like the battle system, other people didn't like the story, or whatever. But if you haven't played the game, it's impossible to come up with a defensible reason not to like it. That goes for any game.*shrugs* Yeah, FF7 is really the only game I've ever done that with. I've never played the game because I've never cared for it, and I've never cared for it because I know entirly too much about it even though I've never played. In short, I missed the hype, I missed the era when it was tabu to say "Guess what, Aeris dies!" without a spoiler warning, so I missed playing the game unadulterated. I would play the game, and perhaps my earlier post was a little harsh just to make FF7 fanboys squirm a little, but it's just that at this point I wouldn't spend any money on it.

General Discussion / Re: My system is better than...
« on: May 14, 2006, 01:00:16 am »First off I want to apologize to all of the Nintendo lovers. I just recently watched G4's coverage of E3 and I saw the Wii and some of the games for it. I completely understand what the hype is about. After watching that program, I come to realize that Nintendo might sneak back in the console wars. I was blown away by how the controller works. It is very innovative and if I'm Sony and Microsoft, I would be very cautious about Nintendo. With that said, I totally agree with Magus Complex. I will have two next-gen systems and from the looks of it, they might be the Wii and PS3. I hate XBOX. By the way, does anyone know what the cost of the Wii will be and when it will be released?Everyones been saying between $200 - $300 dollars for the Wii. My personal guess is $250, but the truth is we won't know for sure until Nintendo gives an official announcement. They do keep saying that the price will be very affordable and competitave though.
I like what mircosoft said about the ps3: people will buy two systems: the 360 and the wii- for the price of the ps3.Yeah, they are! It's a really interesting business move on their part, "siding" with Nintendo to try and put a dent in Sony (I use the term siding lightly). I find the quote really funny, personaly.
cocky, aren't they?

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: What did you rename your characters to?
« on: May 12, 2006, 03:06:54 pm »I left all the names alone.Oh yeah, I did that what your sister did with the names on my second play through of CT, left them alone, like you did, for the my first though. I remember I called Robo by his serial number since Prometheus doesn't fit. R66-Y, is that right?
However, a couple days ago when I let my sister play through CT, she had talked to the Nu at the Laruba Ruins and changed to following:
Frog>>>>>>>>Glenn
Marle>>>>>>>>Nadia
Magus>>>>>>>>Janus
So she basically gave them their "real" names aside from what they are called. She was upset when she couldn't rename Robo's name to Prometheus though. When I walked out of her room, I called her a jerkface.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / What did you rename your characters to?
« on: May 12, 2006, 02:33:07 pm »
Just got this idea from one of my posts and thought I'd throw it out there. I don't know if a topic like this has been done before, but if it has then it's my turn to start one. The question:
What did you rename your CT and CC characters to, and why?
I'll start, of course. I renamed Fargo in CC to Bill because an uncle of mine by that name has almost the exact same hairstyle and bushy mustache as Fargo. In fact I named a lot of CC characters after people I know (or knew) from real life that shared at least one feature with the character.
Your turn!

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Favorite Party to use? (CC/CT)
« on: May 12, 2006, 02:25:57 pm »Wow! So you're missing out on the alternate 1/4 to 1/3 of the game and multiple characters (including Glenn!) because you won't abandon Kid, a fictional character? Now that's what I called principled!CT: Crono, Glenn, RoboI know how fargo became became mine: I could never abandon kid, do I never got any of the alternates for doing so.
especially for their triple tech. It must be noted that there really are no truly sucky characters in CT.
CC: Serge, Kid/Glenn, Karsh
I'm not sure how Karsh became one of my favorite characters exactly, but he did, so I use him a lot. I think I should start using Guile more though, too.
Tis' against my nature to abandon people like that.
To tell the truth, I had a hard time abandoning Kid on my second play through, but I figure since she turns out okay either way it's not quite as horrible.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Fargo and how much he rocks! I usually use him at some point in a play through if the opportunity presents itself. I renamed him Bill because an uncle of mine by that name has almost the exact same hair style and bushy mustache as Fargo.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Who would you talk to?
« on: May 12, 2006, 06:25:08 am »
Hmm, nice topic...
Let's see, I'm gonna go for a non-stereotypical answer for someone who uses Magus's name in their forum name.
I'd like to talk to Lavos (through some means) and Queen Zeal to see if there was anything else other then spawning and lust for power respectively as motivation.
The three Gurus would be my second choice, and my third would be to talk to Dalton just to get a laugh or two.

SquareEnix should do the unthinkable and sell the copyrights to the fans as a whole. The Chrono community has started so many fan games you'd think they had already handed it over to us.

General Discussion / Re: Difficulty: Legendary
« on: May 12, 2006, 06:10:49 am »
Radical_Dreamer's comment about MM Zero Series' Hard mode is no joke. The first and second Megaman games were fairly hard to me because the first Megaman game I ever played was MM3, where you could slide, and you can't slide in MM1 or 2. All the Megaman Xs are difficult to some degree, X1 - X5 fullfilingly so, and X6 and X7 have disapointingly artifical difficultness. My first boss fight with Sigma in X1 holds a very special place in my heart, it took me quite a while to beat him.
Zelda 2 for the NES was difficult all around, in a sort of way where you stummble around dying until you find out what you're suppose to be doing to progress.
Soul Calibur III's AI might be the cheapest, most annoying fighter AI ever created. I spent several hours trying to beat the final boss of the "create-a-character story mode" in SCIII and eventually did by repeatedly using the same cheap move that the AI had trouble dodging. Unfulfilling but effective.
That's all I can think of for the moment.

Games I'm looking forward too? PSU is on my wishlist too, as well as most of the better known Wii and DS games that will be coming out.
Anyway, the Wii has my vote, it's the first next-gen system I'll be getting. Truth be told, though, I usually go for two systems when I'm fiscally inclined, so PS3 and XBOX360 are competeing for my future leftover cash at the moment. It's much like a game of limbo in that I ask "how low can you go?" to each system's price. I may just wait 4 or 5 years and get a PS3 for around $200 - $250 or I could get an XBox360 for around that much, probably sooner... hmm, tough choice, it'll probably come down to games, and you never know, Xbox could surprize me...
All I know is that Square needs to stop focusing so much on the Final Fantasy series as much as it does and make another Chrono game! I wanted one for the PS2 back in '05, but that didn't happen. Makes me think the Chrono series is dying...(insert raw bitterness toward Square here)

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Lavos apocolyse attack
« on: May 11, 2006, 11:44:26 pm »
Even if Lavos does destroy the future world every time (unless you ram him with the Epoch) after Lavos is defeated that's when the two worlds split, so the ruined world would be sent to the Darkness Beyond Time because Crono and company butted-in and that makes way for the Chonopolis version of the future... I think that's how it would work anyway.
Regardless, it's a safe assumption that Lavos' first destructive attack on the world after he wakes up is devestating, but I think it's Lavos' continued presence after that as well as Lavos Spawn attacks that cause the irreversibly damaged future seen in 2300 AD.
