« on: September 15, 2009, 05:42:03 pm »No, I'm pretty sure Toyfare appreciates people sending in their custom creations, or at least that's what they've said in the past...
I checked to make sure. I know they used to take submissions years ago then basicaly stopped for a long time. They just recently brought back that Home made Hero feature. They don't take any submissions via their website that's for sure. Most of the stuff they show now is just stuff they pulled from the net. Usually from e-bay.
@Zephira:
True, but for Ozzie now I'm thinking that Play Arts Yangus from Dragon Quest VIII has the perfect body and has great articulation.
slap on some sculpy and viola'! The Oz-man cometh.

Funny how we think alike.
Giant space parasites can do that to people I guess ^^.
I have definitely kept easy range of motion in mind with these figures for just such a project.
Too early to tell right now but once I get a few more characters under my belt I/WE the community
can start throwing some ideas around.
@Pandor:
Red they shall be then!
Also, I don't think Toyfare takes submissions rather they just show off stuff from the net that gets popular enough or that they REALLY like.
@ Zephira
Lol, all those different interpretations is exactly why I was a little confuzzled.
But I guess I defer to my own fan art and keep those eyes Red.
I've got decent parts to make Crono, Marle and Lucca fairly quick. For Ayla I'm trying to win a Launch figure from that short lived
Dragonball diorama /action figure line(crosses fingers). Frog and Robo will be a BH to find working parts for not just that but they need to be in scale with Magus (he's approx 7"). For Robo I was thinking sculpting over that Capsule corp mech suite from a few years back.
I was also thinking that a lot of generic DBZ toys can be used for some parts and even a few NPC's and Monster types can come from it. I can fuse a DBZ Yamcha and DBGT Krillin into a fierce looking Toma: The Explorer. Dedoria into Ozzie? That dude that fought Goku in DBZ: resurrection into Slash?
I know that the new Blue Dragon action figure line has a few promising creatures that with a bit of paint will make for good Tyranno Lair creatures and other mobs. Zombor anyone?
Oh and the Dragon Quest VIII Play arts line is gold for this stuff.
Lol, luckily there is a good amount of resources out there. If we really wanted to give this a try I can make it happen, I have a few friends locally that are just as geeked out about this stuff as I am. Plus I'm sure there are others around the forums here that can be a BIG help too. ^_^

« on: September 15, 2009, 02:05:20 pm »OH GAWD THAT IS EPIC MY HEAD ASPLODE
MAKE MOOOOOAAAARARRRRRARARASRARARRRR!!!!11!!1!1!!1oneone!!!!1!1!!!!!
What was your base figure? A DBZ d00d I assume? (WHO DIED SO MAGUS MAY LIVE?!)
In a related note, I've been toying with the idea of turning my old Bulma figure into Lucca, but her articulation is crap, and CT figs deserve better.
Edit: Oh yes, and I want a rear-view, or even full 360 rotation!
I'll try to get some 360 degree shots up tonight.
As far as the recipe goes I used a DBGT Super Android 17 head and boots, The legs and waist are from a Marvel Toys Madman figure,
and the chest and arms are from a Marvel Legends 2 pack Wolverine. The cape is hand sewn and all the armor and other details are
sculpted in.
I mentioned in my post over at Custom Figure Showcase that I was planning to use a Chi Chi and Bulma figure for Marle and Lucca but just like you
I'm not crazy about the lack of articulation ^^. I'll use figures with better articulation for their bodies but those DBZ style faces and hair are near perfect.
@Faustwolf:
No worries, just like anything else in the world. Good ideas are only worth anything if you have the moola to back them up.
Hell, even if I could afford a licensing fee from SQUUEENIX they wouldn't allow figures to be made of any one from the Chrono Verse anyway... to busy on their 9nth and 10th versions of Cloud and Sephiroth >_<.
Oh and to any one that can answer this. What color are Magus' eyes. I used a bunch of different art for resources and it seems to shift a little (red, green, even blue!). Since his pupils are so beady in the official artwork they are often drawn/colored all black. I finally used the clearest image of his eyes I could find which was from the "Prophecy Full filled" anime cut scene from CTDS/PSX which looked green and I knew could be inaccurate because he's not even Magus yet. Can anyone provide a definite answer?

Do I feel a C&D coming on?
lolz
I was thinking of doing the monsters in my style..at least for Lavos anyway.
But yeah I agree that I should probably handle the main cast of CT in their classic appearance.
As "played out" as Toryama's style is, it is still iconic and will make getting the "base" figure
types I need quite a bit easier.

Wow! Has it been THIS long already?!
Where does the time go?
As some of you know I have a few Chrono Illustrations in progress already.
Of course every now and then I like to dabble in other forms of art and for those of you who have visited my
Deviant Art site may know one of those OTHER arts is custom building action figures of
characters that have not or may not ever get the opportunity to become immortalized in plastic.
Well after searching high and low all over the net I came to find that other than the wonderful custom's our very own
Pandor has worked on there are no OTHER Chrono Trigger figure goodies around. Now I know all us Chrono Fans are used to getting
shafted when it comes to NEW content from our beloved series', we can only take it for so long.
So here is what I hope will be the first of many new Chrono Series action figures.
It's a fully painted fully articulated action figure.
Since it's my first in this true anime-ish style I'd like to know what you all think before I move on with more of them.
Should I stick with the traditional Toriyama style when applicable? Or try something new at times, like using one of my various redesigns
as the style guide. ie like make a Lavos in my style rather than the original design?
Anyhow, without further delay here is CT-01 : Magus (Chrono Trigger Version)

These are all awesome!
Love what your doing with Magil/Guile.
And that Glenn/frog is looking PERFECT!
I'm often customizing/sculpting action figure/doll stuff.
My GF and I made a Kidd using one of the basic 7.5 inch teen dolfie bodies
a while back.
I'll have to post some pics of it soon.
It's not as good as the sculpting featured on these, but my GF did an amazing job on the costume.

Hell yes.
On the Lavos bit to the humanoid's left, is that a smiley face? If not, it's a happy coincidence. If so, nice attention to detail!
Lol, it's not quite a smiley face but it is a face sort of swirling around within that orb-like dome.
I intended that same effect for the face of the humanoid also. Sort of like a crystal ball type thing,
you'd see various faces just sort of coming in and out of focus. Visions of animals, monsters, & men, they'd all
show exactly how many creatures are now a part of Lavos.
I may have a few pics for you to do... if you'd be willing to help out.
If not, I understand fully.
PM me, maybe I can help out.

« on: June 24, 2009, 03:48:41 pm »Here's a picture Chrono'99 did of King Zeal: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/flamestealer/KingZealsketch.jpg He's got a small beard, large blue robes similar to Queen Zeal's with gold embroidery.
Also, I think the Lavos bit on the far right of the image (his left) is the "true core"
Any chance of seeing Magus in the C series? So far, Dalton (or maybe Lavos) is my favourite out of that series.
Lol, yes indeed that is the true core ^^. Too obvious I guess lolz.
I was thinking of making them both completely identical but I though adding a small "presence" to one of them
would be creepier.
Sweet, work from Chrono '99. I didn't know about the beard so that helps a bit.
It's funny back when UCT2 was around we had a similar design for a King Zeal.
I never posted any of those designs here since he was an original creation of Kenji's.
Any of the designs I made for any of his original creations on that Project I never posted anywhere else other than on that development forum.
Even so it looks like we thought along the same lines when it came to imagining what King Zeal would look like.
Mines looked very similar at first although the final UCT2 version ended up with a long beard by the end.
As far as a Magus themed "C" image, you bet there is one in the works.

Wow, lots of positive responses this time around, THANKS!!
Can anyone tell which is the "true" core from this image? ^_^
You know I would really like to do some CE tribute images too.
If anyone can get me a decent image capture of the Kasmir, King Zeal, and King Zeal as the Dream Lord sprites shoot 'em on over to me.
I'd gladly do some "C" themed artwork for them. (What is Kasmir anyway? A panther demon like Lynx, or just a monster with sort of a spikey head? His head kind of looks more like a Bomb/Balloon from the Final Fantasy games.)
Also, I'll probably finish up that Modern Guardia Soldier sketch I added from before so we can have an un-official "Agent 12" portrait.

Next up here on my concept illustration series is my early interpretation
of Janus Zeal, aka Magus, aka the Fiend Lord, aka Magil, aka...well you get the point.
I went for the more Robe like appearance he was meant to have in RD and CC.
I later exposed the muscular arms so as a throwback to the Toryiama style. Remeber even kids have
huge muscles in Toryama's worlds so I felt I needed to follow suit in at least that respect.
Next I had a blast sketching this new version of Zombor.
I gave him a more recently unearthed look. Slime and sinew hang from his bones,
his hands have that natural claw like menace, and his mouth just screams
"I'm gonna' eat your brains and gain your knowledge!"

Nice artworks! @w@ I wish I could be so good. And I like that Glenn outfit! xD It rocks!
Sai, you want a safer project idea which is C&D proof? ;3 And I know just the thing that utilizes the best of artistic skills. *laughs*
Lol, I didn't expect to make as many updates as I have so I didn't even think about it ^^.
I'll at least put a table of contents type guide on page 1.
Thanks for the kind words, but which Glenn outfit did you like? The page 1 Glenn in "Cyrus armor" or
Human Glenn (page 5) in his more traditional outfit?
And as far as new project ideas go, if there's a Chrono idea out there that any of you think I can help out with
PM me.

« on: June 03, 2009, 12:46:17 pm »I wonder how these designs would have been in UCT2. Was it meant to be a 3D project or sprite-based?
It was meant to be 3d. I know the engine wasn't finalized but thats about all I know on the programming side of things.
They had some sweet environments and some mapped models for the reptites and early Crono, Marle, and Lucca renders
but thats about as far as it went.
They had some great work. It sucked that they couldn't finish (life gets in the way, again >_<).
Considering the progress they already had if a game couldn't be made maybe they should have just switched to a
ruff animation project. A lot of leg work was already out of the way. Or maybe a nice RD style rpg. Now that SE is sort
of on the warpath I figure a safer way to get a NEW Fan Project out without any fear of a C&D at all is by using the Radical Dreamers approach.

Thanks Mav and Faust,
I had fun with the De-Bugger for sure. I'll post a few more hopefully later this evening.
As for the Imp I wanted to keep that clown-like garb Toryiama had on his Imps but get
away from that "Emperor Pilaf" look he uses so often. The idea was to make them
vicious looking but frail enough to be a basic mob encounter. Lol, that reminds me, my version of the Rolly mobs
that the Imps Rode in on looked a little too much like a Lavos spawn so I never continued with that one ^^.
