General Discussion / Re: Video Game Discussion Thread
« on: July 02, 2011, 01:43:33 pm »Translated, yes, but localized for Europeans. They would have to localize it for the U.S. as well as whatever tweaks they need to make to the DVD's due to the consoles being region locked. I am fairly certain NoA isn't even able to borrow the European translation and use it as a starting point for their own, meaning they'd have to start with the Japanese version like everyone else.Grrrr... I read this news today on IGN. A shame they aren't coming Stateside, despite the fan outcry. I wonder what their logic is. Good companies should really meet the demands of their consumer-base.JRPGs on the Wii have had a hard time selling 200,000 copies in the US.
Call of Duty 3 and CoD: World at War both sold over 1,000,000 copies each on the Wii, and CoD: Black Ops has sold over 600,000 so far.
Games like "Just Dance" have sold over 2,000,000 copies.
Logically, which is the best investment? There's no money in JRPGs in the states. Nintendo is a business; money comes first.
It has already been translated... What do they need to invest?
However, what do they do after they make money off of the key franchises? With the explosion that casual games have made on Facebook and the App store, Nintendo seems like they're taking a "me too" initiative. They invest in casual games now, because those sell more than hardcore epics. That was pretty much the whole point of the Wii, if you remember. Bring gaming to non-gamers. How do you do that? By making/porting games for non-gamers.QuoteJRPGs on the Wii have had a hard time selling 200,000 copies in the US. That's true, but Nintendo is known for porting games that commonly sell only 200,000 copies. I mean, much of the Wii library is pretty weak. This has been the case since the days of the Gamecube. Nintendo itself reaps massive profits from a few key franchises and third party development fees.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Trigger/ Cross/ RD similarities in the outside world?
« on: June 22, 2011, 04:30:29 pm »
It's a generic scene that you see a lot in Japanese/East Asian media. I doubt it was intentional.
EDIT: After all, Toriyama didn't even do the art for Cross.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Cross Cinematic Remakes

The first one seems more like a trailer than an opening. Just throw in some random Japanese celebrity talking about the game and it'd be perfect.
I enjoyed the second one a lot. Overall I felt you did a good job.

I'm tired of all the guns... seriously.
I guess that's what appeals to the Western market, though. Oh well. *goes back to re-playing Chrono Trigger again*

What I'm currently watching: Fairy Tail and Deadman Wonderland.
Fairy Tail is about wizards/mages. It's almost like it takes place in an MMO world. All of the wizards form guilds where they form teams (parties) within the guild in order to go out and do jobs (quests) for rewards. They are currently around the 80 episode mark and still going. The story focuses around 4 main characters with their own special abilities.
Deadman Wonderland is about this boy who gets convicted of a crime he didn't commit, and is then sent to life in prison at a place called Deadman Wonderland, which is an amusement park where the convicts are forced to entertain to make money to support the facility. There is a secret about the place, conspiracy theories abound, and the main character is stuck in the middle of it all due to his newly found powers.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Favorite Chrono Cross Character
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:10:24 pm »
You know, when I think about it, I don't really like very many of the characters in the game.
In the end I pretty much just wind up using Serge, Kid, and Glenn/Guile... so it'd probably wind up being one of them. Probably Kid.

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Re: Ahoy!

Well jeez. It's been a LONG TIME since I've been here.
So yeah, just a reintroduction I guess. Read the rule about thread necromancy to be okay, so here I am.
I was never a prominent member of the forums, though I lurked quite a bit. Life got me down, so free time was limited, so I stopped frequenting the site. I doubt any of you remember me, but hello again anyway.
It sure is nice to see that the place is still active, (and by active I mean not completely dead). Honestly, it warms my heart to know that there are still dedicated fans of the Chrono series out there.
<-- I still love the King Zeal :3

As long as there is still stuff to discuss, the forum won't die.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: 1999AD: How Director knows about Lavos?
« on: August 20, 2010, 03:37:18 pm »
^ That's right. Every mystic knows about Lavos' existence. They probably passed the tales down as the legend of the great Magus, and it eventually got spread to everyone.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Re: The Nature of Shadow
« on: August 05, 2010, 03:56:32 pm »Doesn't Spekkio just say that Shadow is a combination of the other Elements (it'd be good to have that quote...probably more so from the retranslation if it differs much)? Not really specifying that it has to be a combination of all three simultaneously?I don't know if he actually states that or not, but it is true that moves such like Antipode (combining Water and Fire) and Delta Force (combining Water, Fire, and Light) inflict Shadow damage upon the enemy. This, at least, supports that the other magics combined DO create the effect of Shadow magic.

Hm... well, my girlfriend has a Hello Kitty toaster. It prints Hello Kitty's face on the toast. How awesome would it be to eat toast with Lavos on it?

Thanks for the welcomes!
Haha, yeah. I've always been more of a "lurker" on forums. I've never really had anybody around me growing up to discuss in great depths the wonderful awesomeness that is the Chronoverse. Since my fandom appears to be reviving (yet again), I figure it's time to actually get involved in the discussions instead of viewing from the back of the room.
Also, how awesome is this sprite?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Did Magus miss his big chance on Death Peak?
« on: August 03, 2010, 08:26:40 pm »One of the most ingenious moments in Chrono Trigger, in my opinion, occurs during the Death Peak Clone Replacement scene (starts at 1:30 in this vid) with Magus in the party. Notice how, just after he says "Save the hellos for later! We've got work to do!", he takes a moment to step back and brood?I don't know if this was brought up yet or not, but... wouldn't Norstein Bekkler need to have had at least some sort of interaction with Schala before he can create a clone? As far as the story with Chrono Trigger goes, even if you don't ever go to his tent before Crono's death, it is assumed that after bumping into Marle, you would take them around and explore the fair. By doing so, Norstein Bekkler would have had to have some sort of contact with Crono, even if it's just seeing him. This would allow him to create a clone of him, or anybody else he's met for that matter. Because he hasn't met Schala, he couldn't possibly make a clone of her. Without a clone, Magus would not have been able to pull her out of that moment in time.
I've always been fascinated with what, exactly, is going through Magus' mind at this moment, and I think the answer would reveal much about his character. When the team acquired the Chrono Trigger, did the thought cross his mind that he might seize it, get Norstein Bekkler to create a clone of Schala, and then ascend the mountain himself to achieve his goal of saving her, at Crono's expense? Now that the world's only Chrono Trigger has been expended, does he regret not doing so? Magus might therefore have developed a latent animosity toward Crono (explaining such charming comments as "You got whacked 'cuz you're weak!").
Given that Crono's life holds far less meaning to Magus than Schala's, it would seem to me that he didn't just run off with the Chrono Trigger precisely because he believed she was still alive. This couldn't just be a mere guess on his part -- I mean, he's giving up his one chance to pull her out of the time stream. This man has faith! Though pangs of uncertainty probably haunted him throughout the rest of the game.
Just thought I'd ponder aloud, because it's fun. See what can come out of a simple sprite animation and text box?
