Chrono News / Re: Yasunori Mitsuda to Perform with Video Game Orchestra on April 1st (for serious)
« on: March 19, 2011, 10:47:40 pm »Argh, stupid hashbang URLs. I'll fix it later.
Yeah, I hate them too. I always have to "double wrap" them so they will link properly.

I would assume its uber-prohibited.
Beyond that, in the occasions that SE allows non-official performances of music from their IPs, they don't allow the performers to show video (i.e. montages or cutscenes), let alone allow attendees to take any.

Chrono News / Yasunori Mitsuda to Perform with Video Game Orchestra on April 1st (for serious)
« on: March 19, 2011, 05:07:38 pm »
This April, the legendary composer of the Chrono series, Yasunori Mitsuda, is performing with the Video Game Orchestra (among others) at Boston Symphony Hall for the event BACK TO THE FUTURE: Two Generations of Film & Video Game Composers. The program includes "...music from Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, AFRIKA, Civilization IV and other popular games". Ticket prices are even in the "mere mortal" range ($15.50-$49.50), with an additional $5.50 'service' charge when ordering through BSO.org. Ticket availability still seems to be high. A snippet from the Boston Symphony website:
I'm negotiating my schedule to get myself to the concert, so hopefully I'll see some of you there! (I'll be sitting up front with an oversized wrench and faux moustache.)

Berklee College of Music’s Film Scoring Department, students, alumni, and staff present an evening of music from celebrated movies and video games. With Boston's historic Symphony Hall as the setting, the concert features the Video Game Orchestra, directed by guitarist Shota Nakama and conducted by Yohei Sato.
Special guest conductors include Grammy winner and Oscar nominee Alan Silvestri, Emmy winner Daniel Carlin (Berklee's Chair of Film Scoring), Golden Knight winner Lucas Vidal, composer for the popular video game Chrono Trigger Yasunori Mitsuda (emphasis mine), and video game composer Wataru Hokoyama, whose credits include AFRIKA and Resident Evil.. The concert also features a performance by the 90-member world-pop group, Rhythm of the Universe.

General Discussion / Re: Micheal Jackson is dead!
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:57:26 am »Yeah, really. Some self-righteous religious asshole on my Facebook said "Oh it's so convenient that everyone forgets he was a child molester and SINNER when he dies."
I could never understand use of religion to look down on someone else. T_T I thought we were all people...
...Why did Michael die the day after I was fervently trying to convince my grandparents to not throw away all of his LPs!? No word yet on whether I convinced them.

Fan Art / Re: Lucca to the Rescue! - Some Character fan art
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:02:27 pm »Oh wow, I really like the Marle sketch.
You have a very unique coloring style, by the way...it's really gradient; it's nice.
Thank you. ^_^ Its a mix of experiments and some of the techniques listed in the digital coloring and inking tutorials by Julie Zhuo. The tutorials made coloring far easier!
There's a bit of pillow shading though. You should avoid it as it makes the lightning inconsistent. See this link for a short description of what pillow shading is: http://www.natomic.com/hosted/marks/mpat/shading.html
Ah! I never knew it had a name.Sometimes its hard not to pillow shade while I'm getting carried away. Those pixel tutorials are very nifty, btw.
Your use of line thickness and emphasis reminds me of this style, and I think its very effective.
Whoa! I really like that style. Where is this image from?
I wish MY wrench was that big... that's like a buster-wrench! Why the hell didn't she have that in CT XD.
I don't think wrenches are used enough as improvised weapons in games...
Now I think I'll have to draw Lucca with a Buster-wrench, looking emo.
Are there any other uses of wrenches in games aside from the Repo Man in FF6? ...and maybe murder by wrench in Clue?

Added some Marle, btw.

Fan Art / Lucca +Marle + Glenn - Some Character fan art

In some of my newfound spare time (being in the lull between graduating from college and getting a full time job), I've been working on a few character poses, starting with:
Lucca:
Here is the sketch before coloring (I like to ink by hand on paper first):

And then after coloring:

Next, add a pinch of Marle:

Isn't the amount of damages (whether one lawsuit or two) still dependent on the value lost or damages incurred by Square Enix? I have a hard time believing that they could get 150k (let alone 300k) from this. The Alpha is said to be missing some dialogue and scenes, and lacks any "polish". No one is going to get it and say, "This is way better than [insert new/random SE game here]. I'll play this instead of paying for a game!"
...Actually, that scenario is perhaps possible if the game in question is Last Remnant, but that's beside the point. In any case, I'd still not want to find out in front of a judge. Having a real life is vastly more important.
As a side note, what is the status of Temporal Flux in all this? Was it discussed at all in negotiations? I suppose it doesn't matter if you can't make games with it, but it still requires a copy of the game to begin with.
*Returning to watching amazing footage*

The videos are so exciting! Maybe if i trade my mouse for a controller, it will feel like I'm actually playing as I watch each one? As a side note, will we discover in the end the portions which were never completed (whatever they are?)? I may have missed this information, but threads have been moving more quickly than I can keep up with lately.
Convenient, though quite impossible that it was him. Well maybe not impossible, just extremely improbable. Doesn't seem like his modus operandi either.
But I do remember seeing Dark Serge's name on the first few torrent sites that got the leak.

He was really starting to creep me out. And I didn't even have a suspicion it was him until the very end. I still want to know why, but I don't care to spend any more energy trying to know.

Site Updates / Re: Straight Talk Express with the Compendium...Next Stop: Truth
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:39:05 pm »I hate to say it, but that just sounds like incredibly narrow-minded talk. Do you honestly think that CTRP, CT:R and CT:CE are the only Chrono projects in existence? The only things that matter? What? Like said, it may have been great, but it was only one. It is not the be-all, end-all of all Chrono fandom and people need to stop thinking like it is.
Agreed, though I think this is important on a larger scale because of the implications for other fan projects, at least by looking at the effect this has had already on other Chrono fan game projects across the web.

I actually only heard about the Compendium a few months ago, and knew nothing about CE. The encyclopedia is extremely useful. The weird part is that I'd gotten a copy of Temporal Flux eons ago from a random website and had used it for some hobby projects ages ago. o_O I thought it was just some discontinued tool until the C&D headline appeared in my news aggregator and I mentally connected the dots.
Its weird, the C&D made my Chrono-zomes start cooking again... This week I made a longtime friend play CT because he never has before. Lol I think he nearly cried when he thought Robo died....just wait until he gets to the REAL shocker!

I know this keeps coming up, so I'm wondering if there's a historical basis for this notion:
Has anyone ever tried to sell a Chrono (or other franchise) fangame? I don't see how that would ever make sense, or be legal.
