Polling / Re: Who would you cast in a Chrono movie?
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:12:10 pm »
But of course, which is why I would be very keen to cast one of my favourite actors as my favourite character. I suppose it also depends on how exactly the director wants to portray Magus. He could be anywhere from 20 to 40 years old, it's never really stated. His build is hard to determine as well (I doubt everyone in the game would be as muscular as Toriyama portrayed). If you want to go with a younger Magus (20-30), then Johnny Depp would be better. For 40+, Christopher Lambert.
Though the idea of a Jack Sparrow-esque, blundering and comedic Magus is very appealing, it doesn't fit the character (or at least what's shown in-game).

Johnny Depp is 40+ though... and makeup can make him pale.  What about the dude who played Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter.  Now THAT guys is Magus!

I picked Alan Rickman because he's very versatile... and I think he would be amazing at playing a man on the verge of losing his mind.

Truthordeal, that was my original idea for Marle and Lucca... I don't know why I had them switched around.

How is it at all like Zelda?  Unless you're referring to Zelda 2.

I mean what Truthordeal said.  I enjoy how the enemies are all onscreen interacting with the environment, whereas in Golden Sun for example, I can be trying to find a lighthouse and be bombarded by those goddamn random battles with enemies that appear out of nowhere.  The CE team talked about random encounters being easier to program and such... that may be the case, but I think its time for big developers to drop this style altogether.  I really don't see how it benefits a game in any way.  I think it only hurts its overall appeal, and the game becomes less engaging.

Glenn (Frog)- CGI
Glenn (Human)- Topher Grace (would be perfect to play this timid role)

Dalton- Michael Rosenbaum
Toma- Colin Farrell
Melchoir- Philip Seymore Hoffman
Gaspar- Christopher Lee
Belthazar- Alan Rickman

Square never made a sequel of any kind to Super Mario RPG.  Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series was made by Nintendo using only SOME of SMRPG's elements.  None were nearly as good as Square's masterpiece.  I love the darker story that SMRPG adds to the otherwise whimsical Mario world... but in my opinion the other "Mario RPGs" don't deserve to be called sequels.

Polling / Re: Who is a worthy match for Crono?
« on: July 29, 2009, 11:53:53 am »
I'd go for Link... but he has to be well equipped:  Ether Medallion, Bombos Medallion, Quake Medallion, both staffs, Ice Rod, Fire Rod, Deity Mask... and of course, the lvl 4 Master Sword (golden).  I wonder which would break first, the Dreamseeker or the Master Sword?

Assuming Link can find a place in his leather belt to put all that bullshit, he could have a chance.  Then again, there are variables with the other characters as well.  Mario could do it if he had infinite Stars, Sonic could do it if he had more than 50 rings and became Super Sonic, etc... Crono doesn't really have a special ability to become invincible to everything like Mario and Sonic have.

Of course there are some characters in video game history that could not beat Crono, no matter the circumstances... Sory, Donald, and Goofy come to mind.

The battle system.  I absolutely hate touching one monster, then being magically transported to an arena where there are three monsters!  Active battles all the way.  It's what I loved about Chrono Trigger.  The battle system reminds me of a mesh between Zelda and FF.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Worth getting?
« on: July 29, 2009, 11:23:18 am »
It definitely is... but I'm probably biased because I played it for the first time on the DS (except for about 10 minutes I spent wandering aimlessly in Leene Square in an emulator about a year ago).  For me, it took all the elements I hate about RPGs (random battles... enemies not on-screen till they "appear" out of nowhere, and the same battle screen being used over and over and over and over like Super Mario RPG or Final Fantasy) and makes them better.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Lucca's Mom sidequest....
« on: July 29, 2009, 11:18:38 am »
Okay, I have all of the sidequests (except the Lost Sanctum, can't find the building material and I can only handle LS in small doses anyway) completed... Crono, Magus, and Ayla are at lvl ** but for some reason, I still can't get this password right.  I walked into the backroom and read the document on the table.  I walked back into the main room of the house where Lara is being sucked into the machine.  I try pressing "L-A-R-A" after it prompts Lucca to do so, but it isn't working!  I have played through this game 7 times now, and Lara has been a paraplegic 7 times also.  What could I be doing wrong?

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Once-King Dalton
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:07:12 pm »
I of course want to see a true sequel to Chrono Trigger... but as previously stated, it depends on the DS versions sales.  Unfortunately for us, too many gamers are lazy and cheap and will just play it on an emulator and never invest in this new version to begin with.  If we see anything, we will see Chrono Cross for the DS or PSP.  I am hoping it will be the DS, because I do not want a PSP, as I think it is highly overrated.

What do you guys think?  I don't think the DS would have a problem with the graphics of CC, but I am unsure it could handle the sheer scope of the game.

These are interesting ideas.  I was perfectly content thinking it was just the Dream Devourer fucking with the party,  because through Schala, Lavos learned more about Crono, Marle, and Lucca.  After reading this thread though, I have a headache because I am not content anymore haha!

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Noob questions
« on: July 10, 2009, 08:11:33 pm »
I am on my third CT playthrough and I have no idea where to find Robo's Apocalypse Arm.  Can any of you help me?  All of my characters are at level 73-77, but the only characters I have the strongest weapons for are Crono (Dreamseeker) and Glenn (assuming the fully powered Masamune from Cirus is his strongest weapon).  Also, I am still using Lucca's Wondershot.  I know there has to be a more powerful gun for her somewhere.  With Marle, I am still using Siren's Kiss.  Also, with Magus, I cannot find anything stronger than the scythe I found I Death Peak when I revived Crono.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

By the way, I just found this site.  I have been a gamer since I was 5 (1987) and I missed out on Chrono Trigger when it was first released.  My wife got me CT for the DS for an anniversary present and I have not played any other game since... I had no idea I was missing out on one of the best games ever made, if not THE best.

Thanks for your help in advance!
