Polling / Re: Which Chrono character would you date?
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:45:35 am »
For a fling, Miki and Ayla are obvious choices, but I'd like to think a little more long-term...
So I chose Schala. She's supposedly the most beautiful and regal of all the people of Zeal, and she's a powerful magician and princess. Plus...assuming she wasn't nomnomed by Lavos: ruling the most advanced and enlightened kingdom in history after the worst ruler its ever seen has set a precedence that would make it easy for me to look awesome by comparison? Yes, please.
...Wow. As a married young man, I seriously over-analyzed that >.>

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Best Party?
« on: August 08, 2011, 07:24:19 pm »
Agreed. In my recent playthrough on the DS, Magus did decent attack damage and his Dark Bombs were throwing out 1200+ while the other characters were critting for 900-1100. Not too shabby, in terms of single-target effects. Of course, for mass destruction, it's Luminaire all the way. I don't think Dark Matter can compare, but it does the job well enough.
Then again, doesn't Luminaire derive from Crono's Str stat, as well as Mag? Or how is that calculated? I know it relies on Str to some extent. In conclusion: Crono defies logic and is using cheat codes >.>

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Best Party?

I generally use Crono (Massive phys attacks + high crit % + Luminaire), Marle (Haste+Heals/Combo Techs), and either Frog (High crit % + off-heals/Combo Techs) or Magus (Decent phys attacks + Heavy magic damage).
I switch around a bit, since everyone is useful enough not to be dead weight, but I mainly use that party. Or, I switch Ayla in for Marle for more damage and a little healing.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Was Chrono Cross too easy ?
« on: August 06, 2011, 01:07:38 am »
Oddly enough, I'm replaying Cross (after replaying Trigger) and I thought the exact same thing. I never really noticed before, but after just crushing everything without so much as a need to heal or do much other than attack, I thought, "Wow...I could just mash buttons and win without so much as an issue."
The only somewhat-challenging battles come from Miguel, the Time Devourer, and to a lesser extent: Garai and Dario. I know that the Mama Komodo and perhaps Karsh, Solt, and Peppor should be softballs in the beginning, but...Mama Komodo did a total of 10 damage with me defending to take my time with it, and I nearly crushed Karsh with a single Electrojolt element. It dealt ~50 damage, with my attacks doing between 5-15 compared to their 2-3 with the occasional 5.

Kaboom!
...is what my head just said. That's astounding. And it would, in a few ways, make complete sense. If that was originally the prehistoric Lair of the Reptites (worshipers of dragons, and lizard-folk), then it could possibly evolve/be renovated/changed over time along with its creators and become "Fort Dragonia", an ancient dragon-worshiping lair.
Very interesting.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Trigger Coming to Virtual Console
« on: August 02, 2011, 01:41:11 am »I shouldn't buy it...
I have the snes cartridge, the psx remake and the DS remake.
...But I will probably buy it anyway !
Quoted for truth. I have all of the above, yet I'd still buy it on VC. It'll give me an excuse to dust off my Wii and listen to the glorious soundtrack over my surround sound. God knows my Wii isn't being used for anything else -_-

General Discussion / Re: Video Game Discussion Thread

Hm. The mandatory internet connection seemed obvious, after SC2. It's how they're beginning to roll. I don't mind, since my connection's always active, but...hey, options are never a bad thing. Especially for a game with strong single-player offline content in its history.
As for the real-money auctionhouse...now that's a huge shocker, coming from a company who has repeatedly denounced players selling in-game items for real-world currency and claimed that games are for fun, and that allowing players to spend real-world wealth to gain something over other players is unfair and immoral. Though, given how much they've pushed their in-game item shop for WoW, I guess it makes sense. *Sigh*
