Chrono Compendium Discussion / Re: Cleaning up spam
« on: July 24, 2016, 05:00:52 pm »There are better, more modern forums that we could use which would help reduce the SPAM problem, but migrating all the posts, accounts, groups, etc. would be a real pain.
Given the low participation rate in the forum, it may be better to relaunch the forums/community portions of the site using more modern software and provide a read-only archive of old forum posts.
This would be ideal. The only thing that you should even attempt to migrate as far as the forums go would be user accounts and perhaps a few stickies.
Also, greetings after a decade!
If only a buddy of mine hadn't tried infecting Hillary Clinton with ransomware and fled to Mexico, I'd be having a lot of fun with his services right now.
He sounds like the hero this country needs, but does not deserve.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: So, what's the big deal about a direct sequel anyway?
« on: July 22, 2016, 10:10:12 am »ahh another veteran returns!
GrayLensman must be right around the corner.
I'd heard whispers of a new Chrono game coming out (which will probably go the way of Break if history is any indicator) and started reminiscing about my 14-15 year old self, sitting in my mother's beautiful, sun-lit living room all day playing Chrono Trigger in ZSNES and posting on these forums... Ahh, to return to better times!
The place seems to be in a bit of disarray, though. One thing I noticed is that the forum seems to have literally died for awhile before people started coming here and necroposting (likely around the time of CT DS, no?)
Either way, I'm amazed that so many are still here, ten or eleven years later. Crazy. Does ZealitY still post? I haven't spoken to that guy in so long. Or well, any of you, really. I imagine if there is a grain of truth to a new Chrono game, the place will come back to life for awhile.
I further assumed that since they have the power to escape their home planets' gravities in the first place, the Lavos spawn could easily have some means of altering their trajectories once in space, allowing them to avoid stars, black holes, and other dangers; perhaps even using them for gravity assists. Even with such speed boosts, the unfathomably vast distances involved always led me to wonder how old Lavos already was when it arrived.
Gas ejection. No, really. As to the age of Lavos when it arrived on Earth, keep in mind that the "real" Lavos resides within a pocket dimension inside of its shell. It could very well have a finite life-span not much different from that of a human while "existing" for millions and millions (potentially billions) of years, purely on the merit that it can interact with any plot of time it so desires.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / So, what's the big deal about a direct sequel anyway?
« on: July 20, 2016, 04:25:56 am »
Just think about this: the Chrono Universe essentially spans millions and millions of years. There could even be other PLANETS with humans living on them, and we're well aware that the super-species of which Lavos is a member produces quite a large number of spawn. Even if you think that's too far out there, why couldn't Lavos be defeated by different people multiple times? Chrono Cross has already obfuscated and muddied the waters so much as to render any objection questionable at best.
Why does it seem (at least to me) that the majority of people are obsessed with a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger? All of the elements which kept you captivated would still ultimately be there: time travel, dimensional travel, a rag-tag group of should be, would be, will be heroes from different places and times. Why is it of paramount importance that it be the same group of heroes? The group in Chrono Trigger ultimately completed their goal. Whether or not they simply delayed Lavos (we know they didn't) or out-right defeated it, banishing it to the DBT, their mission was fulfilled. What would you have a direct sequel be about, pray tell? Chasing Crono's mother and cats through time? (Yes, I'm well aware of Crimson Echoes, and what I saw of it on Youtube years back, it was very well crafted--I even contributed a little myself and opted not to have my name listed on the credits because I wasn't even sure I had contributed enough to justify my placement there, but I digress. Ultimately it doesn't change the fact that hoops were jumped through to create a story for the game and it was clearly borrowed VERY heavily from Chrono Cross in many ways, but that's a story for another time. Haha. So punny.)
Ultimately, I surmise, a dissatisfaction with anything except a direct sequel is likely a product of rose-tinted nostalgia goggles which prevents you from being able to accept that Chrono Trigger was never really about its characters in-so-much as it was about its deeper underlying themes. Crono could have been a blue-haired girl named Rhia and it would not have affected the outcome in any appreciable way. Likewise for every character in the game. The game would have still been a commercial success and would have still captivated the imaginations of children and adults alike for years and years after its release, much like it does now.
Naturally, feel free to leave your opinions, or perhaps your shock that an eleven year old account has spontaneously begun posting again.

« on: May 01, 2013, 11:27:30 pm »3) If I remember correctly, after fighting Queen Zeal the Black Omen becomes a portal to Lavos, where the real fight then begins. Though I could be wrong on this.It actually doesn't matter when you fight Lavos to have the goal consistent. The Black Omen officially exists Out of Time, and if you affect it in the future it will remain affected in he past (compared to normal time-stream, which is one-dimensional, where changing past affects the future but not the other way).
In other words, no matter which era you choose to fight the Black Omen, you'll end up at the same place and same time.
Also I wanted to point out that you can destroy the Omen 3 different times, presuming you tackle it first in 1000 AD and work your way down to to 12,000 BC.

The truth is I was coming to this site back when it was still new. This was thinly veiled trolling to see if any of the old posters still came here. Either they do or didn't recognize me, recognized me or didn't care.

To J:
Why is it you are in support of a system that has become remarkably authoritarian? In particular why do you view current systems as being pinnacles of human ingenuity when they have a proven track record of being corrupt and ineffective? Furthermore, why do you label those who are against said systems as terrorists? A great number would prefer to see peaceful resolutions as opposed to resorting to violence.
Currently we slave away under a system that rewards those at the top only; as time goes on, it becomes increasingly difficult to reach that economic pinnacle, lest you be born into it. Those that work the hardest, those that do the dirty work, get paid far, far less than those who in reality act as little more than a figurehead.
The system, as far as I am concerned, truly does not work; I would love to be convinced otherwise, but all that I have observed has left my outlook for our species quite bleak indeed.

Oh undoubtedly. But to suggest the large numbers of pedophiles and crazy people in general are going to stop trolling /b/ to thrash down society as a whole is a bit of a stretch. As to the bomb threat, I can only recall two: the football bomb scare (DON'T MESS WITH FOOTBALL) and some dumbass kid making pipe bombs to blow up at his school. The dumbass kid, as I recall, was a real threat, but if you'll also recall, it was the denizens of /b/ themselves who reported him to his local police or the school or some such. The death threats are iffy, but if you're actually one who has perused /b/ for several years you tend to realize one thing: /b/tards love their shock value. Then again, I have never taken anything on /b/ remotely seriously.
This is a good point. I see the term "domestic terrorism" being thrown around here and there, but I'd like to understand the logic in calling Anonymous domestic terrorists. From what I understand most of their crime involves harassment and nothing violent. As for the pedophilia thing, it really could be anywhere. The reason it ends up on 4chan so much is because it is a completely unmoderated place... If you open up something like that, you really should expect the worst of the internet. Now whether I think 4chan should be moderated or not, I would say no.
4chan DOES in fact have a moderation team. The problem is that /b/ has an extremely high post count per day, making it virtually impossible to keep the board clean.

I'd support any ISP who refuses to serve it up until the crimes instigated through or by /b/ can be codified...making this one of the extremely rare instances in which I'm siding with the big corporations and against the free speech crowd.
I'm probably influenced in my thinking by the ugly excesses of the French Revolution.
Are you serious?
Exodus, coming from someone who lurked /b/ for quite a good while I'd have to agree with him. Sure, the board is filled mostly with underaged browsers looking to spout memes for mindless time wasting, but I can safely say that there are sex offenders and "domestic terrorists" on the site. Remember the bomb threat that came from a /b/tard, and the death threats to various people going to their home phones? There's a slew of child pornography on the board daily, as well. It's really not as harmless as one might think.

/b/ may be the "worst" of the site, but 4chan entirely is made of the "scum of the internet".
I really don't mind getting rid of them.
In all reality, I GUESS it would be a different story from my point of view if it was just a contained place, but with all the internet-attacks they do from that site...
How's the sun up there?

« on: July 22, 2009, 04:43:25 am »Quote from: Thought
"Bitch," as I usually hear it applied, tends to indicate that a women is mean, in-your-face, rude, uppity, etc. That is the exact opposite of how standard sexist culture claims that women should act (they should be "kind, caring, polite, soft-spoken, etc).
I see that as applying to both sexes, not just women.
