Oh, nothing is perfect -- I guess I thought you were coming down on it much harder than you really were. No hard feelings.

That was an awful lot of criticism for people that just worked about 400 days on the largest CT music project ever to exist. You seem to have a lot of issues with the way the music is done, with the only saving grace being a few clips in a few songs. It's not that bad, is it?
Zeality, how did you manage to get banned? It seems that no one would dare ban the master of Chrono Compendium
As for the project, I have to say my favorite song is Schala and the Queen. Despite the prominence of Pixietricks' singing -- it shocked me because I'm used to the old version -- it grew on me fast and now I'm hooked. I also am pleasantly surprised at how good Darkness Dueling is; I didn't imagine that the plain Battle theme could be so well-mixed. It's actually an exciting song now.
I know each person has their own opinion, and I respect that, but I have to have my two cents as well:
I had the opposite reaction from J -- I think that some songs may have an overabundance of originality. Not that it's not great, but Revelation of Fire claims to have Singing Mountain in it and I was really expecting Singing Mountain. Same with The Last Stand and Lavos' theme, but the end of Schala and the Queen fills my need for a grandiose Lavos theme. That was really my only complaint about the soundtrack, though. The way it's all done, I don't have issues with. And I quickly got over the missing characters, as I knew about them long before the release.
I think there's just enough song variety for the way the script was designed; all of the included characters' themes appear, even Queen Zeal with Undersea Palace and Black Omen. Shoot, even the battle theme pops in for a whole song. To me, some of the reason that it may seem like all the songs that are in there aren't, is because they're so originalized that I can't recognize some of them. See above comment.
As for slower songs, Door to the End of Time, Morning Sunlight, The Chrono Trigger, and To Far Away Times are definitely not loud and boisterous. I'd put Manifest Destiny, Crono's Dream, and most of Schala and the Queen there as well. In Schala, the orchestra doesn't flare up at all until Magus' theme, and then it drops off again until Lavos' theme.
And Pixietricks rocks my world. If Schala ever needs a singing voice actor, I'd sign her up.

Polling / 5/14/05 - How did you first learn about Chrono Trigger?
« on: November 24, 2005, 11:23:29 pm »
My friend told me, "There's this great game I have and it has a character that you would love! He's got blue hair, a long cape, a big scythe..."
And I said, "When can I play it?"
Yes, Magus is the reason I even picked up the game, because judging by the name "Chrono Trigger," I assumed it was a shooter. Trigger...guns...it's a logical connection, or so I think. My pal had mentioned the game randomly earlier, but I dismissed it until said conversation occurred sometime in the middle of the night.
And now I'm hooked. Yay for friends.

Polling / Toughest enemy in the game? (1st encounter)
« on: November 24, 2005, 11:17:05 pm »
My hardest boss to date is Lavos 2, solely because I think my game has a freaked-out power stat for him. Almost every time he used Grand Stone, my party was instantly 90% dead. That meant 2 people dead and one barely alive. That was at full health -- otherwise, instant KO. I wanted to reach into the screen and kill him myself after a while.
Magus was just time-consuming, not hard, to me. I kicked his butt first time around either way; the barriers made it longer.
Giga Gaia was a challenge, but not so annoying that I wanted to throw my controller. That's about my standard for boss super-difficulty.
Golem Boss was easy, even keeping him from running away, to me. I died to the Golems I was supposed to die to, and since that's part of the game, I don't consider them real boss battles. I know you can beat them, but I never bothered to level up that much.
I also never bothered to fight Spekkio in Nu form, so he's not on my list at all; by the time he got there, I was weary of boss fights and just wanted to get endings. Spekkio didn't matter that much to the game in terms of his battles, so I ignored him. Maybe I can count him as the hardest, because each time I fought him before, he creamed me, but I think I was under-level, so I won't count it.
I also won't count Flea -- she was the first boss I ever fought because my friend plunked me down into the middle of the game and I had no clue what I was doing. I was so happy when I finally got to Slash...and then I died. But the battle was so memorable Whenever I hear the generic boss music, I think of that one.
Optional bosses were no big deal, except it took me a fight or two to figure out Son of Sun. He was a pain, but not super-hard once I figured him out. (Area attacks = bad.)
Masamune was in the middle. He took a while to die, but wasn't much of a problem.
Some people mentioned Queen Zeal. Hallation made me want to scream, but I had so many Full Elixirs (Is that what they're called? I forget. Those super-healing items.) by then because I'm item-paranoid. I never use anything powerful or super-healing, because I know that someday I'll hit that evil boss battle where I'll burn up my entire inventory...most of the time I end up keeping them for the whole game because I always expect someone worse...
Come to think of it, I was fairly well-prepared for every boss battle except Lavos' second form. I may be forgetting a boss, but I don't think so.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Crimson Echoes demo
« on: November 05, 2005, 04:58:21 pm »
I downloaded the demo, applied the patch to the game and such, but I can't run Crimson Echoes. All I get is a blank screen. No lockup, but no game runs.
