General Discussion / Re: Top 10 Video Games
« on: March 08, 2008, 01:22:16 pm »
Ok. Let me tell you. Star Ocean 3 was a hell of a game. But you had to get through the first few hours. The story was incredible. I don't want to spoil it but please play through it. But here is my list...
10. Castlevania: SOTN the best castlevania game ever.
09. Breath of fire series.
08. Xenogears and Xenosaga series. The coolest and hottest female android EVER. KOS-MOS is my baby mama. Lol.
07. Final fantasy 7,9 I liked these two equally
06. Dragon Quest VIII
05. Rogue Galaxy. Great game.
04. Kingdom hearts series
03. Lost Odyssey. Just simply gorgeous
02. Chrono Trigger. Classic
01. Final Fantasy Tactics. I love this game. They did it right and I wish that they would make another one with updated graphics and characters from some of the other ff games.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: What I'd Like To See In The Next Chrono Trigger Game
« on: November 26, 2007, 06:29:00 pm »
I would also like to see it look like DQVIII. And maybe they can add something like limit breaks or the similar charge system from DQVIII. And definintly voice acting.

Polling / Re: Who is the better animal in Square Enix games?
« on: November 09, 2007, 02:15:28 pm »
I like Chu (or is it Chu-Chu) from Xenogears. She was annoying when talking but any animal that can become the size of a Gear is an animal that I want as a pet.

General Discussion / Re: 'Japanese anime destroying American society'
« on: November 08, 2007, 04:41:06 pm »Basically, Thought, what our icy friend here means by realism is not the actual events themselves but the themes and the nature of the story. It feels more real because it's much more serious and grown-up, for lack of a better word.
Thanks Kyro. Thats what I was trying to say...

« on: November 07, 2007, 09:07:45 am »What attarcted me to anime was not only the vivid animation and realism of the show...
Exactly! Why don't American shows display the harsh realism of girls pulling giant mallets out of no where, or how roughly half the female population actually has some sort of magical monster-fighting powers, or how a martial arts expert ALWAYS trumps heavy weaponry?
OK. That would be a little weird if I am walking down the street and a little girl pulls a mallet out of nowhere and summons a monster to attack me. LOL! But that is not what I meant by realism. Most of the cartoons over here in america are humorous, funny, and silly. Thats fine for a little bit but that is not going to keep me enjoying the medium on which it was made. What if all of the movies and videogames made were funny, hysterical, and goofy? No violence what so ever? What I am saying is why should this medium be used only for telling childish stories? And why can't I see an arm fall off when being hacked off by a sword? Its not so much the violence than it is the amount of detail you can get using animation. Take Elfen Lied for example. At the beginning of that anime, there was violence aplenty. But then you see the story and the reasoning behind the violence and that is what keeps me watching, the story.

This article really does remind me of why we (americans) are somewhat stupid. We try to blame evry shortcoming and act that our kids make on videogames and now anime. This is a shame. I am very thankful for the translators and the companies that produce these great shows to take the time to expose our culture to their worlds. I can vividly remember my first anime. It was Vampire Hunter D. It appeared on the Sci-Fi channel years ago when they first started (before comcast became the cable giant that it is now). I thought it was wonderful. I had never seen anything like it before and i liked it. I was 12 at the time. And I can also remember my first time watching DBZ. It used to come on TV only once a week. I hated waiting for that new episode every week but I couldn't help it. I also hated it when they would reset the series because the needed more time to translate the next episodes. But you know what, that made me appreciate that art form more. Without anime, I would not even watch tv. And lets not forget that anime and alot of japanese video games go hand in hand. What attarcted me to anime was not only the vivid animation and realism of the show, but also the story. I always explain this scenario to people: when I was watching TMNT on TV in the early 90's, I was dissapointed in a few aspects of the show. But the one thing that really bugged me the most was the fact that you have these ninja's with al of these cool weapons and all of them used their weapons except one...Leonardo. This guy has dual katana's and he is the leader, yet he doesn't cut people or stab people with his swords. All he did was cut the enemies weapons in half. Now imagine if there was an anime about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles....need I say more. Over here in America, they dumb down alot of stuff because they still believe that anything "animated" is more for children than adults. Whereas Japan has realized that adults and older teenagers can also enjoy that medium with more mature storyliines and visuals. And finally, I think that there are better anime shows out there than most of the primetime line ups on most of the networks anyway. I have logged onto my computer before and watched dozens of episodes of Naruto in the evenings when those networks are supposed to be getting my attention. So anime is the next hot thing and people better just accept it.

General Discussion / Re: The Top RPGs of ALL Time (by "Era")
« on: September 27, 2007, 03:28:48 pm »
you are right, V. I have them mixed up. Persona 2 is for PSX and is rated 8. Person 3 should be the PS2 version and I rate that one a 9. Sorry for the mix up. And I understand how you feel about the Zelda games but they are rpgs. Maybe Zelda 2 shouldn't be there but Zelda I for NES definitely should be included.

General Discussion / Your Battle Hymn
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:42:15 pm »
I love music. Especially in RPG's. Sometimes there are songs that get me in the mood to kick a bosses ass all across the floor. So one day I was sitting around playing and I came up with a question for all of my fellow CC family members. If you were to have a boss theme for yourself whether you were the boss or you were fighting the boss, what would be your theme. You can choose from any videogame or actual song.
If I was a boss my theme would be the song: A Challenge to God-Four Guardian Kings Battle from Romancing Saga.
So post your theme song!!!!!

General Discussion / Re: Kuja Vs. Sephiroth [HUGE FF7 and FF9 spoilers]
« on: August 29, 2007, 06:38:07 pm »
I think that it would be a close fight but sephiroth would win. Why? He's a veteran. He's appeared in other games, and a movie. lol. But I have a question. Why do people hate cloud or Zidane? I know that some people don't care for the characters and think that they could have been better. But why when they fit the mood and plot of the story. For example: If you took Zidane and plugged him into Final Fantasy VII, how would the game fair? Or if you took Squall and switched him with Tidus from FFX, the game would be very weird. What I am saying is that we shouldn't expect a game's protagonist to always have a personality that makes sense to us. These characters personalities fit the game, the story and the other characters in the story. So I'm glad to have played with a character as Zidane knowing that I will get a comletely different personality with the next FF and so on. Not every character can be like Chrono or Shadow or other characters that we adore in other games. Sorry, just had to vent.

General Discussion / Re: Best female character of all time?
« on: August 20, 2007, 01:19:38 pm »being able to beat someone in a fight doesnt mean your better than them. even if samus would lose to kos-mos she could still be better. playing like that no one is cooler than goku, and no one wants that lol.
Oh I agree. Goku is the strongest character every created. But in terms of Samus and KOS-MOS, I would rather play as KOS-MOS anyday. Even if she was to work her way into SMBM, she would be the coolest char to play as. Her X-buster attack would kill anything .Has anyone heard of a game called NAMCO X Capcom? I think its out in japan. I wish they woould release it here.

General Discussion / Re: Best female character of all time?
« on: August 20, 2007, 12:35:19 pm »KOS-MOS is a woman shapped robot. I'd hardly call that female in a meaningful sense.
This is both true and misleading. While KOS-MOS is a gynoid, and therefore not female in the strictest sense, she is also the vessel for the spirit of the single most important woman in human history (as far as the Xenosaga Universe is concerned).
This is a moot point, however, since Samus could take her anyway.
(Hmmm, now that Nintendo owns like 80% of Monolith Soft, maybe we will get to see KOS-MOS vs. Samus in a future Super Smash Bros game. Its more likely than a Chrono character in any event.)
Wow there are a lot of Samus lovers. But seriously, do you all really think Samus could take KOS-MOS? KOS-MOS is faster, stronger, and very calculating. She has a wider array of weapons and techniques than Samus. She is the real deal. And Also she has E.S. Dinah. Come On! Samus wouldn't stand a chance. And the thread say best female character, not best female human char. or best female alien char. She was made as a female so she is. And I don't think samus could take on the Gnosis but I am 100% sure that KOS-MOS would have obliterated Mother Brain.

I have a few characters that are my favorite:
Opera- Star Ocean: Second story. Who wouldn't like a three-eyed women with a thing for big guns.
Nel- Star Ocean: Till the End of Time: Excellent game for those who haven't played it. Nel was a work of art. Best female assassin ever.
Jessica-Dragon Quest VIII- Just the mere fact that you can dress her in different attractive outfits and she fights with a whip; a lost art in a lot of rpgs lately.
But for the best female character ever...Kos-Mos from Xenosaga series. She will kick the living crap out of any other female character ever created, including Samus.
