Help with Chrono Cross "Hard Mode"
« on: January 27, 2018, 08:11:59 pm »
Apologizes as I know this topic has been covered before, but as I understand it I should make a new thread instead of bumping something ancient. Anyways, here we go:

So I'm trying to replay CC. A major complaint I'm sure we all share is that the game is too easy.  I've been searching for ways to increase the game's difficulty, but with limited success. So far, I've found only three solutions:

Solution #1: Setting an artificial limit on myself (ie avoid combat, avoid shops, etc..

Solution #2: make the game absurdly difficult, using the Time's Anguish hack

Neither of these solutions are what I'm looking for. What seems ideal is this:

Enemy editor:

(credit to Magil)

This looks perfect. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out what I need to do to install it. The OP made a youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ5Jh60BmIQ&feature=youtu.be

but I'm lost when he talks about patching the directory. My copy of CC runs off of a disc 1 and 2 .bin & .cue, and nothing more.

Does anyone here have any experience running this mod? If so, can you please lay out the basic instructions for installation? (And preferably not via a 30 minute mind numbing youtube video)

Anyways, I'm posting this in the hope that someone else has installed the Enemy Editor mod and can shed some light on exactly what needs to be done with the .zip file in order to make it run. And I also wish this post can bring the mod itself to better awareness. This seems far and away the superior answer for folks like myself who are looking to replay CC with an added challenge.

to work ccenemyedit you must create for
list1                                     for cd1
5
C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\1.bin
C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\patches\SLUS_010.41
data\enemydata.bin=0x13b8ed28
data\enemydata.lzs=0x13b61434
data\treasure.lzs=0x16a91c
data\DarioTexture.tim.bin=0x153FCA38
data\DarioBattleModel.bin=0x1540F968

list2                                   for cd2
5
C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\2.bin
C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\patches\SLUS_010.80
data\enemydata.bin=0x139AEC68
data\enemydata.lzs=0x13981374
data\treasure.lzs=0x16A91c
data\DarioTexture.tim.bin=0x153CEB38
data\DarioBattleModel.bin=0x153E1A68

1)COPY MY list1 for cd1 AND list2 for cd2
2)go WINDOWS create new folder name it Debugb then UserMode then iso.
3)inside the iso folder putt your 1.bin +1.cue and 2.bin +2.cue your emulator and and the file ccenemyedit.
4)run ccenemyedit it save it. after that press ppf and enter load your game and you done happy game

Thanks for the reply. I've modified list1.txt to read:

5
D:\Emulation\epsxe\ePSXe205\isos\Chrono Cross (USA) (Disc 1).bin
D:\Emulation\epsxe\ePSXe205\isos
data\enemydata.bin=0x13b8ed28
data\enemydata.lzs=0x13b61434
data\treasure.lzs=0x16a91c
data\DarioTexture.tim.bin=0x153FCA38
data\DarioBattleModel.bin=0x1540F968

and list2.txt:
5
D:\Emulation\epsxe\ePSXe205\isos\Chrono Cross (USA) (Disc 2).bin
D:\Emulation\epsxe\ePSXe205\isos
data\enemydata.bin=0x139AEC68
data\enemydata.lzs=0x13981374
data\treasure.lzs=0x16A91c
data\DarioTexture.tim.bin=0x153CEB38
data\DarioBattleModel.bin=0x153E1A68

Do I need the line:
 C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\patches\SLUS_010.41 ?
I don't have this folder. My copy of CC has a CD1 and CD2 bin/cue, and nothing more.

I've run ccenemyedit.exe and clicked save. To test, I changed Komodo Pup's HP to 500, but in game I've noticed no change.

I'm using both PSX and epsxe.

Thanks again

Dimitri33, where are these lines coming from?

C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode\iso\1.bin
C:\WINDOWS\Debugb\UserMode\iso\patches\SLUS_010.41

Even the original .zip uses these lines in list1.txt

E:\iso\SLUS-01041 - Chrono Cross (U)\Chrono Cross (U) A.bin
E:\emu\eps\patches\SLUS_010.41

Thanks ahead of time!

*sigh* :picardno you ignored my awesome hack! well... here's another long video, mostly gameplay, but i explain better! okay? https://youtu.be/9IoIboOnPHk Those "lines" are UNIQUE to every PC user... That's the location of the "patches" folder on my old windows xp machine. the second example was on Magil/utunnels machine. epsxe comes with said "patches" folder! the first line is just the location of your bin/iso.

I do see that you don't seem to understand that directories need to be relative to where stuff actually is, and you can't just use the lines that worked for someone else unless your stuff is in the EXACT same place!
