Zeal Battle 2.0
« on: May 09, 2005, 06:47:46 pm »
Thought I'd tune up my Zeal Battle patch a bit (it still needs work, but I'm getting better, honest :)).

I've added a bit of polish to it.
Have fun with it. Apply to an unheadered American ROM.
Be at a fairly high level with Crono in the party, and walk into Gato's Exhibit.

I'll mirror it and post it as news in a second. Everyone, you have GOT to try this out just for the scenery effect.

Is it possible to win this battle?  Zeal disappeared, Magus became non-targetable, but Schala wouldn't seem to die.

Yeah, I've beaten it twice now.

I'm still working on it from time to time. I'll see if I can replace Magus with one of the other Magus's in the game and boost him up to see if that helps any.

My final version of this patch won't have any bugs in it. I like to post all my work in progress stuff, bugs or not. It's fun to see what can be done.

This is pretty cool, but I noticed a few bugs.

Guardia Forest becomes inaccessible after applying the patch (intentional or not?)
Schala displays blank battle messages and a message that says "Revived from shock" or something to that effect.
After the battle has been going for a few minutes, everything locks up. I can still order my characters to attack but after that nothing happens.

What monster did you use for Schala's AI, or did you just build it from scratch? The only time I've ever seen that attack was from the Golems, and only when they were copying physics. I was expecting her to bust out with Fire, Ice, and so on.

Sorry for bumping an old topic but I didn't see these issues addressed. Other than that, great job!

Thanks for the comments. :)
Yeah, this was just a test of Temporal Flux's event editing capabilities that I thought I would release for people to play around with. I now know how to fix all the bugs in it and all the things I did wrong. Perhaps eventually I'll get around to fixing them. The game isn't really meant to be fully playable with this as a sidequest or anything, I'm sure other parts are broken too (who knows what else I was messing around with at the time >_>).

I wish I could make an AI from scratch for Schala, but little is known about the enemy AI data right now. I tried all kinds of different AI slots for her, but none really seemed to fit, so I just pretty much chose one (I can't remember which one offhand).

Again, I'm sorry about the bugs, I have gotten quite a bit better at event editing since this modification, the last few weeks I've been doing quite a bit of learning with it.

Yeah, I gotta wonder.  Where can this unheadered version be found/created?  Use one of FuSoYa's programs on his new site?  Download an uncompressor of some kind?  Try to find a ro--scratch that, like I would even bother try to find another rom  on those hard-to-find reliable sites.

Seeing as how I found out that TF is required to unheader Chrono Trigger, and the fact that it's already been answered in the Announcements page, it's probably best that a moderator erase these two replies.
