Is there anyway to make it so that for some contacts it will be a certain display picture/nick name, and for others a different one?
And also, with the new MSN, can you not tell if someone is blocking you or not?

You need to use block checker (it has adware) to know if someone is blocking you. Otherwise, it'd defeat the purpose of blocking someone if MSN told you.

As for changing names, pictures of others, you can't.

AFAIK, there's a possibility by using MSN Plus, at least for contact names.

Custom Names

    * This feature allows your to set custom names for your contacts.
    * The contact list can display the custom names, which enables the "view by email" option in Messenger, and it can use custom contact names while chatting.
    * This function can be accessed in the Preferences panel, in the Contact list section.

....but, be aware. I do think it installs some spyware in your mahcine. Google around to see if it's true.

Adium and GTalk are the only IM programs that haven't given me any problems.

The problem is that no everyone use them. :/

I hate msn, but the great majority of people that I talk to only have MS Messenger for conversation.

Well yes, no one uses GTalk yet, but Adium is like Trillian. And does a much better job of it. Though the Wikipedia addition would be nice.

I use Trillian for that. Most of my friends are on AIM, but some are on MSN, so I can consolidate that all in one program, that is a better piece of software than either the MSN or AIM chat program.
