Radiohead
« on: May 26, 2006, 05:27:48 am »
Just felt like making a thread in honour of Radiohead! Radiohead is one of the greatest bands of all time, and in my eyes, better than The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Queen. Put together. So far I have four of their albums (Pablo Honey, OK Computer, Kid A & Hail To The Thief) and I will be getting Amnesiac soon. When I get all 6 I will do a full review for each, but for now I will do a quick scoring:
Out of ten, no decimals

Pablo Honey: 8
OK Computer: 9
Kid A: 10
Hail To The Thief: 9

I love Radiohead for its risk-taking music, for its incredibly deep lyrics, and its interesting musical style. I mean, it isn't exactly Jazz, it isn't exactly Rock, it isn't exactly Acoustic. It is an incredible fusion of many musical styles, but instead of becoming a generic Jack Of All Blades it becomes a new musical genre in itself, which I call Radioheador. The only band that is still around that I can think of that even slightly compares to Radiohead are The Flaming Lips. Need to get me The Soft Bulletin & Clouds Taste Metallic. Pink Floyd was a bit like Radiohead...a bit.

All in all, if you don't have it already, get it! I would recommend either OK Computer or Kid A. OK Computer is more...familiar, but Kid A is Dark Side of the Moon worthy, awesome psychedelic tunes with deeper lyrics.

Little interesting fact: If you play Kid A on two different players, with one 17 seconds behind the other, it synchs amazingly well, especially the first song. Seriously, the way the first song syncs up, you'd think Radiohead did it on purpose!

I normally like their singles, but most songs on the rest of the album that I've heard (OK Computer, Kid A and I think Amnesiac) were more or less 'meh'.

It is usually like that if you play them individually. It is more a concept album, much like The Wall. I almost always play them as a whole album, rather then on shuffle.
