Chrono Trigger is getting a lot of attention lately; there are three things to report. Firstly, a lost song has been discovered by JLukas inside the Japanese ROM of the game, and is not present in the US cartridge. It was found without an instrument table, meaning the song's original arrangement has been lost. A version probably faithful to the original has been created through codes that assigned instruments to the fanfare; it is the closest we'll get to hearing the real thing. It is unknown why it was not used in the game and was also taken out in the US release. The version I've created is now shipped with the Chrono Compendium Supplement for CT's soundtrack; download it
here.
Secondly, Chickenlump has been hard at work decoding the enemy AI and attack scripts. He is now maintaining a full AI listing for all enemies in the game, presented in an easy-to-read table. Preliminary tests feature his Schala experimental enemy (of the Zeal Battle rom hack) executing 15 different attacks. This is great news; if you'd like to experiment, the enemy AI listing is
here.
Lastly, Dirtie has followed up his CT Sound Effects pack by extracting all the battle effects. If you wondered why stuff like Luminaire and explosion sounds weren't present in the original sound effects pack, it's because Chrono Trigger uses two different sets of sounds for locations / battles. The pack is ready to go, but we need some help naming the sound effects and pinning down what actions and techs cause them. If you'd like to help out, download the battle sounds
here first, then head over to
this thread and try to name them while listening. Any and all help is appreciated; we need to name them before we can make an official release. Thanks for assistance!
