Hm, it seems Serge and Schala if I'm correct differ from one another to some extent. If I were to guess I would say the two come from two distinctive time periods. If we were to carefully analyze them from one another in terms of appearance, we would say that the two differ in lifestyle and also were raised in different environments, simply from the clothes that are shown below. I see Lena tried a different approach when creating these sprites but acted cautiously when doing so, maybe do to criticism or was afraid of striping key essentials of each individual. In contrast, their's not alot to be said when comparing the original Serge from Chrono Cross and the one shown below, but we do know that time has taken it's place. On to opinions, so they say Serge resembles more of a pirate than the original Serge in Chrono Cross. As we know, the original Serge wears a bandana, so getting around this key essential when changing or attempting to change his appearance without giving that whole pirate/rebel appearance is going to be complicated, unless simply eradicating such things. In my opinion, the change of clothes has little effect to the source of the problem, in this case, the "pirate" resemblance. The choice of coloring and style/accessories that are given to an individual has a much greater effect to one's being, since it portrays who they are and where they came from (origin). If you are a fan of the Final Fantasy series and have quick eye for things, than you can also notice the resemblance of Rydia when compared to Schala (one shown below), a more mature and much older Rydia which I must add, which is good all in all, since it not only draw fans of the Chrono Series but also fans from the Final Fantasy series. As we all know, the original Schala has blue hair, so one would assume an incident or something occurred over time to take this affect, will just have to wait and see.
