Rocky Balboa (spoilers)
« on: December 30, 2006, 03:26:07 am »

Anyone else see the film? What a piece of work! It's incredibly thoughtful and polished. Stallone has not made Rocky someone invincible who can shrug off opposition with bravado. Instead, Rocky is human to the absolute core, and simply lives extraordinarily and with passion. It was fascinating to watch because it's like Rock Lee in his fifties. He has accomplished absolutely everything he desired and more, and he's still in the springtime of youth. There is no sunset for this man. He is a light unto himself and all who know him.

I was at first hoping Rocky would get enough points to numerically win the fight, but I realized -- if Rocky can match Mason Dixon in his prime, then Rocky in his prime would have absolutely killed the man. This is not so farfetched, as professional boxing is a shadow of its former self.

Anyway, take this wallpaper:

I saw it. Thought it was a pretty great movie. Was slow to start I thought, and the training montage could have been much longer, but those 2 things aside I greatly enjoyed the film.

nothing from this movie is feasible.  on an average a boxers career is over by 35, no senior citizen could match any heavyweight title holder in the past or in the distant future.  the first rocky, stallone played a 30 year old wash out.  this was in the 70s.  i havent seen the movie yet, but from what i read about it the story is about as convincing as the fast and the furious 2.

It's a criticism of modern boxing, and several critics have pointed that out. From what I hear, modern boxing is utterly down the tubes.

i greew up with boxing and i feel horrible about what has happened to it.  there have been so many great athletes that have shown their ability in the ring, but since don king the sport has gone down the toilet.  i hate to see ufc or wwf being more popular than boxing.  fights are stopped at the first sight of blood, most people cant even remeber a 15 round bought, annd there hasnt been a heavyweight fight for the past 15 years where the outcome wasnt known before it began.  the featherweight fights are still ok, but i wanna see some real heavyweight action.  the first rocky wasnt a good movie because of its realistic depiction of boxing, it was a great story.  a good boxing moovie is cinderella man.  rocky one million and five isnt worth watching unless you want to see a bunch of slo-mo sweat and sylvester with no shirt on.
