Heh, the interview clearly expressed one of the more difficult things about wonderous, story-oriented games. The problem being that at times, the developer and the consumer interperet things a little differently. The case in point being that while Mr. K got a kick out of Cross, many fans felt as though it wasn't deserving of the Chrono franchise. The truth is, the fans have every bit of a right to interperet it any way they want, as does the developer. The story belongs to us all, and for that reason, things can be viewed from different spectrums.
Personally, I'm just glad that he thanked those like me for falling for Trigger so much, and I like how he added that while Cross may be the highest quality, it doesn't mean that it is the best. Truly, if technological prowess was the only thing to make a game great, then Halo would be better than GoldenEye. I personally found Cross to be a dissapointment for the series, but not for RPG's in general. After all, it had little to nothing to do with Trigger, besides certain scenes I don't want to mention because I hate spoiling things for people, but it was a great game on its own.
It may be difficult to compare Cross to other games in the genre besides its predecessor, but I would be doing that, had I not such lofty expectations in the beginning. It's a good stand-alone game, not a good sequel. Hats off to Cross, it entertained me, but hearts off to Trigger, it made me fall in love with a genre. Also, it made me love Magus' character type!
