What? Is there still FFVIII hate lingering around? I thought it all had passed onto X & X-2 now...

I remember when VIII came out, all the VII-fanboys whined and complained about how different an approach it was (even though they really hadn't played many of, if any of, the classics by then) and how they just absolutely hated the "Draw System".

Then when IX came out it was all those same VII-fanboys plus the VIII fanboys saying the same thing, and adding a complaint about "big-head mode" and then came the classic fans yelling about how it was nothing like the old games.

Then X came and then X-2 and suddenly everyone's a fuggin' comic genius for connecting three girls with guns to Charlie's Angels...

I didn't mind the Draw System, but I realized it was no more boring than any Leveling Up System...Less Random Battles, But Longer Battles...Big change-up, right? Whatever...Many of the characters weren't very well developed, but the main ones WERE, and quite nicely too I might add. They threw in some nice twists on the FF's constant story friend, the Love Story.

I didn't like the draw system because it penalized you for using magic. Since you need it to raise stats, using it lowers them. WTF, mate?

On top of that, it essentially makes every character a copy of the other in battle. Don't get me wrong, materia wasn't much better either. I like to see characters that more or less have a set purpose and situation to use them in.

Plus, for half of FFVIII you're using GF like crazy because your characters just don't seem that strong. Maybe it look me awhile to get used to the system, I dunno...

Yes, Squall & Rinoa are probably the series' best couple. Like I said before though, the other characters suffer from neglect.

Sorry, I still can't shape the mixed feelings over FFXIII. Not because it was bad, but because it has SO MUCH going for it, yet doesn't deliver in some of the areas I wanted it to.

Loved FFX, hated FFX-2. But I already mentioned that earlier in this thread, I think.

But using GFs is what it was all about...Heck, it was what a large part of the story was about even! Magic was just there to look pretty, occasionally help in a couple battles against certain things when you needed Float or something similar, and to boost stats. If you used Magic, you were a shmuck. Why would you use Magic when you've got the GFs? When you know your stats depend on them? If you're really really strategic, you could even junction properly and have Magics you use more often on less important stats...It was just a different approach if you ask me...

I kind of disagree about Squall & Rinoa...In the end, actually felt more for Laguna...But the whole Squall, Rinoa, & Seifer thing was very cool indeed. The other characters R the suck though, even though some of them seem like they could have been cool characters...

I don't really care...I give it more praise than it deserves because I know people out there bash it more than it deserves...FFIX is the best of the numbered (FFT to the MAX!) PSX FFs to me...

FFX is my third favorite game in the series, after FFVI and FFT.  I liked FFX-2 quite a bit, but it was far from my favorite.

FFVIII I might actually like better than FFVII.  But those two are really, really close in my book.

That would be third. Unless you are like me, and don't consider FFT to be part of the "series" per say. I don't mean that as an insult to FFT by the way. I just only count the numbered Final Fantasy's as part of the "series series" if that makes any sense. I'm debating if I should cap that at 9 or 10.

You forgot your end quote tag there bucky!

Also, perhaps he tied FFVI & FFT at number 1, as I like to do with FFVI & Chrono Trigger for best RPG...But, whatever...Tactics rocks your fucking socks off!

No, I'm just an idiot.  I meant to say third.  Although I don't really count FFT as part of the FF series proper.  Hell of a game, but it's not really one of the normal FFs.

Now that FFXI has been made into an MMORPG, I've given up with any pretense of there being a "proper" series. Now, FFT, FFX-2, and FFXI are all in the same category as the other numbered FF's. FFMQ is a "maybe"; Final Fantasy Adventure, and the Final Fantasy Legends series are "no"s.

Although I'm normally one to say "to hell with 'proper' and 'normal'"...and heck, I'm also one to say 'MMORPGs are a-whole-nother genre for christs sake, it should have been FF: Online'...MMO basically just means that it's multi-player...and, of course, that it's online...So it's easy to defend borders for SRPGs even though they've let in MMORPGs into the numbered mix.

I count FFTactics because it kicks so much of the numbered series's ass. 'Proper THAT' I like to say...Alright, I've never said anything like that before...whatever...
