As for how we figured it out, do you mean the realities for the Chronoverse or the Many Worlds theory itself? If the former, as I said, the details on the Reptite reality and the Radical Dreamers reality provided the evidence, though I have no idea when it was first figured out or by who.

That's like asking what's the meaning of life or how do you cure cancer... The game isn't supposed to answer that, or Kato would win a Nobel prize.

Yeah, there were always these infinite timelines. The wording of the game does explicitly state that Home World was formed as a new dimension, whereas it previously did not exist.
