Trying to make a hack, don't know where to start.
« on: November 10, 2007, 05:08:09 pm »
Hey, guys.

I'm starting to work on my final project for a digital art class I'm in, and the focus of it is supposed to be "interactivity."  I've been thinking about it, and I want to use a video game format for the project.  It would progress through three scenes/locations -- Millennial Fair, Ocean Palace or the Black Omen, and then either Keeper's Dome or parts of Geno Dome.

I'd want to hack the dialogue, and add in a character sprite to guide you along -- once you talk to that sprite, it starts up the story, leads you up to the the telepod and you get transported to the next place.

In the next portion, I'd want to add sprites and dialogue and go through a few screens, seeing more of the story.  I'd then create another exit and have the player go through there to get to the last part.

For the last scene, they'd go through the story and then ideally would either be surrounded by robots, prompting the "game over" screen, or would just be destroyed by the mother brain.

...Is this possible at all?  I've been playing around with RPGmaker and Temporal Flux and seem to be woefully inadequate at both.  I also can't find "dialogue" in Temporal Flux -- it has everything else in the Strings section but that.

Any help is much appreciated.  I really need to get started on this soon so I can find out early if it's not going to be possible.

You edit the dialogue directly from where the location is I believe.  If you want brand new sprites, your going to have to graphics hack, but if you want regular ones, just tell it to load a NPC.

How do I edit from the location?  And any NPCs will do.

Well, I'm not really experienced with TF but I think the area where you WANT stuff to happen there should be some Dialogue boxes.  Just edit those with what you want.  Exits are easy to do...Just kinda have to explore TF a tiny bit (NOT THE CODING!).  Moving them i'm not really experienced with as i've never done it.

I was able to figure out how to move exits, but much beyond that escaped me.

Crystal Zeal,

When you open up a location, you'll see on your side menu that some of the options will be highlighted in blue text. You'll be able to click on those options to give yourself more options. Editing text can be done by going into "Events" and locating, (or adding) new events called "Textbox".

Hopefully that helped. I'm new to Temporal Flux as well, so this might not be the best way to do things.
