That...bears a strange resemblance to the general look of things a few thousand years later. Strange indeed.

It's seem logical that the ice age brought more dry land on the landscape but if you look closely at the map from prehistoric to the dark ages (before the fall), there is less land in 12.000 b.c  
1) part of the land missing has been used to raise zeal itself on the sky.
2) the fall of lavos has made the crust unstable and part of the land fell below the sea level.
