From Wikipedia:

The Anim8or community is hosted on two forums, the official forum on the Anim8or.com website, and a more active, user-run forum at Anim8or.org. Anim8or.org also contains a gallery of user works and sponsors an off-topic IRC channel as well.

There are many fan sites hosted by community members with user-created tutorials, image galleries and programs.

Straafe could probably give you a few pointers as well; I never even heard of the program before Straafe mentioned it.

If you want some help with 3d rendering and making characters with anim8or, then ask straafe.  He made an animated Robo figure that's really awesome, and is working on a model of Magus.  I'm sure he can clue you in.  I'm just starting up doing it now, too.

If you do go with Blender, Wikipedia has some user tutorials I think. I tried Blender out a few months back, but my PC can't handle it for some reason -- here's to hoping you fare better.
