Could RD have possibly taken place sometime before CT?

Could Radical Dreamers somehow have taken place before Chrono Trigger?

Chrono Cross, as we know it, took place 20 years after Trigger and used Elements. Yet Radical Dreamers,  the very game is was based off of, had characters using magic just as those of Zeal had. If RD had taken place 20 years after CT, only 3 people would remain in 1000 AD who knew magic (Crono, Marle, & Lucca). Unless they had a method to transfer the ability of magic to others, there's no way RD Serge would have known how to cast a spell (as he says in the opening battle). Unless, of course, Magil/Magus taught him the ways of magic, but that's a low chance considering it's highly unlikely that out of anyone Serge would be able to use magic, as the Zealians did.

Obviously, RD takes place quite a time after 12,000 BC and the Ocean Palace incident given the remains of Zeal and Kid existing, and possibly after 600 AD considering the use of machinery. Perhaps somewhere along the lines of 800 to 900 AD, I think.

Any thoughts?

Well, RD happened in a different dimension, so it might well be one in which others beside Crono, Lucca, and Marle could use magic. But why would the events occuring in 800 AD make it more likely that Serge would be able to use magic?

As for the events occuring before CT, that is unlikely as Lucca is dead in RD, killed by Lynx. That would require Lynx to be a time traveler, as well as Kid (and maybe even Serge; Magil is obviously a time traveler anywho). And Lucca already had a Time Egg, implying she had already traveled through time.

Or did you mean something else and I have completely missed your point?

I guess time traveling escapades post-Chrono Trigger could have led to a timeline in which Radical Dreamers took place, and then more time traveling escapades post-Radical Dreamers could have led to a timeline in which Chrono Cross took place.  As in lots of time traveling and "rewriting" history.

That entire dialogue from utennels was IN Chrono Cross, thus, Chrono Cross was hinting that there are different realities and that Radical Dreamers was just a different dimension/time line/universe.

Maybe that's the official explanation why RD and CC tell different stories.

Or, that's just an easter egg or such thing, but I'm not quite sure.
Perhaps those scientists in Chronopolis use FATE to observe events in different time lines?

Well duh. Isn't it obvious that it's another timeline/dimension? I don't see how you could fit Lynx in Viper Manor and Kid running around with Magil in the CT / CC timelines.

And I don't think FATE can watch over timelines where it doesn't exist. But who knows.

Well, it is hinted in Chrono Cross that FATE computer can simulate possible timelines. So perhaps that record is just a from an experiment or such, for Project Kid?
