Chrono Sexual Innuendo?
« on: September 08, 2009, 01:57:50 am »
So now that the whole Magus=rapist thing has died down, I had another thought. And I'm gonna bring up characters having sex again. Nothing graphic, don't worry.

My Sorta Theory:
When Chrono is put on trial for kidnapping the princess, I don't think he's actually on trial for that. They just had to call it something. And by they, I don't mean the developers. I mean the Chancellor and the court.

I think they think he deflowered their future queen, and they see the class difference as reason to imprison him.

If so, the Chrono/Marle romance can be seen as an almost Romeo/Juliet type thing, in that the odds were against them and it wasn't "supposed" to happen.

Any thoughts?

The class difference is a very interesting bit. Is there really a noble class in Guardia? There was never one hinted at in game, so it could be said that a Prince/Princess would find his or her spouse amongst peasants, or have on chosen for them by the King, Queen and Chancellor.
But, if there is a noble class, where would they live? Truce is more of a peasant's town. It's possible they could have lived to the west, closer to where the Cathedral is/used to be.

Nice thought.

I suppose that'sa legit thought. The only thing that'd make me argue it is that I think somewhere in the actual text the Chancellor said something about Crono holding her for ransom(hence his terrorist line). He might've thought the sex but been mad enough to go off claiming the worst is happening. The doubt namely is coming from, well, if he is upset about Crono raping Marle, why'd he call him a terrorist? It doesn't seem to fit for rape but more for kidnapping.

Censors? Were they allowed to have the word "rape" or even "sex" in any nintendo or super nintendo games?

I know things changed eventually, but nintendo used to be pretty strict about that stuff. Keep in mind we're not talking about Conker's Bad Fur Day, here.  :)

The real question here is whether or not Marle still has a hymen, virgin or no.

as far as outside of Japan, no.  Games like Final Fight had censored under-cleavage and various other changes just for the western audiences.  However, games inside Japan themselves had sex and sexual themes for sure.  I know that Lennus II has sex in it.

As far as the Chrono world goes, I don't think they really had classes.  The one 'outsider' that we know of in the guardian mating history was Leene, and she was a villager/peasant/whatever of the commonplace.  Furthermore, I don't think there are any mentions of suitors for Marle in the game at all.

If there isn't a policy for suitors/royalty for the royalty, then a person kidnapping the heir to the throne and threatening to sire the next heir could be foreseen as an act to overthrow the kingdom.

One last thing I'd like to bring up for consideration.  Do we know when Yahkra took over the Chancellor in Crono's time?  He did use a trial to overthrow the kingdom via the rainbow shell, and perhaps Crono's trial was his first attempt?  If that's so, a prosecution charging rape with the notion of overthrowing the kingdom might be a sufficient scheme for Yahka's revenge.

The topic creator may be on to something: While it's very unlikely that anyone would have suspected that he'd actually have raped the princess in broad daylight in the middle of a festival, his very proximity to her could be seen as a contamination (seeing as how he's a dirty commoner). That would have precedent in both Japanese and American society.

Pretty young noblewoman and a teenage commoner? Yeah, I could see where people would get the impression that he wanted to go after her maidenhead. Though if I were in the city when I heard the news of Crono "kidnapping" Marle, I'd assume he was trying to get a ransom or something...

I think this is all probably part of the reason why running off with a princess is a no-no. Besides making a bad image for the Kingdom and such. They sort of just treated Crono as a scapegoat since they couldn't really lay much blame on Princess Marle...

Name: マール Maaru, Maarudia (Marl, Princess Marldia)

Marle is just like her messing up while introducing herself to Crono because she says part of her name at first and then just ends it (she must think Crono can't be smart enough to figure that puzzle out)...So, in closing...I did, foo!
