The game release *time machine* thread. ;)
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:34:34 pm »
Anybody remeber when 3d gaming was brand new and was the hottest topic?

November 30th 1995:          http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=2155195&date=19951130   Best Bets in VideoGames:  New Systems makes It Even More Confusing To Pick Out Gifts

I was living in a rural area and wasn't as much into gaming as I am now so I missed out on on that era.  :picardno

You guys though must've had a blast.    8) 8) :D :)

I was really hoping for an article about *Chrono Trigger* and/or *Chrono Cross* when it was released and new  so if anybody runs by one please feel free to make a link.

I will like to include other adventure/RPG games that were good but am not sure if that is all right so I'll just stick to the *Chrono Series* for now.

See ya.

This message board is bouncing up and down and I can't see what I am typing now.

Battle Arena Toshinden for near $60. *whistles*

This is actually a really good topic. I might be in the minority on this, but it's my opinion that 2D games from the late SNES era have aged far better than 3D games of the early Playstation era (I'm considering both circa 1995, though FFVII also counts as "early" 3D I think, at least for the field graphics). It's probably because 3D was just beginning to be figured out, whereas 2D was pretty well developed -- it's not just comparing apples to oranges, but ripe apples to green oranges.

Looking back in 2016, I'd probably say Final Fantasy X had also aged well.

I agree with you, Faust. I think in general, 2d art ages better than 3d art.

Sometimes...though even in old versions of Marvel vs Capcom & Capcom vs SNK, the sprites are a bit cringe-worthy compared to like the newer versions or the sharpness of the Guilty Gear series'.....

Hooray for the Seattle Times...?

In CvS2, pick Morrigan and basically any other character. You don't even have to compare it to Guilty Gear. Still though, try to find a 3d model (if Capcom made one) of any of those characters from that time, and compare it to SF4.

Does anyone have any newspaper clippins or sources that talk about games of that era?

It would be nice instead of just IGN or something which is written more by *modern* groups that believe kiddie games have to be shovelware and that all Nintendo fans like it or have blood n guts in order to make a hardcore game.

Games in the early-mid 90s proved otherwise.

I grew up with the PS1 and Final Fantasy 7. Ah the good ole days. I really can't wait till our first snow day this year... I swear I am gonna bust it out and play it for the nostalgia.
