Has SE C&D'd any other fan projects NOT related to Chrono?

I know there was a hack for FF6 that enabled you to create your own bosses. Also there were lots of hack for the PC version of FFVII and VIII (Having Seifer and Aeris in your party all the time).

But I don't think there has ever been a new, entire game like CT:CC (and as ambitious) for a FF (beside some mediocre RPG Maker games).

I know that the advent children mod for FF7 was taken down.

What bugs me about companies like Square is that they only seem to go after the well done fanprojects. The badly made fangames always seem to get a free pass.

While not quite a 'fangame', per se, Super Smash Brothers Brawl was unable to put Geno - one of the most popular Mario characters - into their roster because SE got bitchy about him being their character. Weird thing is, he should be co-owned by Nintendo. Geno was only ever in one game, and it's very unlikely that Square and Nintendo will ever work together again. It's disheartening that Nintendo didn't fight harder for custody of that character.

Is there any proof of that? I believe that to be true however, I don't necessarily think SE actually said anything, more Nintendo wasn't going to risk it. Also I think he Chrono games get more slammed than anything else is because were so organized. I mean, do you know any FF fan site this strong? There's the Wiki, but still they are nothing like us. Because we are so organized it's possible for us to create fan games, decent quality ones too. And one finishes we are all notified by the Compendium. Our biggest strength is our greatest weakness as well. It's very easy to find the compendium on google, we aren't some backwoods nowhere that is composed of two nerds in computer class. No we are a community. SE would do this Xenogears, FF(maybe not considering how many there actually might be), Dragon Quest, and... do they have anything else that we actually care about?

Actually, I think this correlates to the exposure the fan projects have. Despite what many people believe, I highly doubt Square was following the project from the start. Some people like to think they were lurking in the shadows, waiting to crush the project right before its release. That's just silly. The game was a huge project done well. A growing fanbase was eagerly awaiting its release. This is probably what caused Square to become aware of the project and issue the C&D.

Crimson Echoes was a huge undertaking. Sadly the quality and scale, which caught the attention of many fans, is probably what lead Square to hearing about the project. Wanting to protect their intellectual properties, and set an example for other Rom Hackers, Square sent out the C&D. They knew a large portion of the Chrono community would hear about it. Poorer quality hacks don't receive as much fanfare. They don't even blip on Square's radar. This is just my opinion anyway.

What really interests me is how big has the news become.

Are the masterminds behind CT aware of the C&D saga with Crimson Echoes and Resurection ? Japan in general has the reputation to be a bit closed from the rest of the world (which isn't necessarily bad). If I went to Japan, had a seat with Masato Kato and talked about the projects and how they were cancelled, do you think they would know what I'm talking about ? More than that, did they saw a bit of the gameplay movies (youtube, etc.) ? I have no ideas because I've never read an interview where they talked about it. Personally, I would be honored to see that people have spent a lot of time creating projects on a game I've made 16 years ago ! If the news have reached them that would be a small victory for those who worked on the projects, I think.

No developer would C&D a project made by their fans.  It was just the work of lawyers and NoA who had nothing to do with the game's creation.
