In the original timeline the Telepod didn't malfunction because there was no Gate there.

Wondering was the gate triggered by the Pod+Dreamstone or was the gate already there waiting for Dreamstone?

The gate was most likely made by the Entity, not the telepod and pendant. If that was so, the telepod would have needed to be activated everytime to open the gate, and the person would ahve needed the pendant. And obviously that doesn't happen, once the gate key is made it washes away any need for the pedant and telepod.

My only problem with that is because the game makes a big deal about the pendant reacting to the telepod to create the gate.

The pendant reacts with the telepod to open the Gate.
