Can you even rescue Kid before doing the SS Zelbess concert? That's a little late in the game, I think.

I don't think so. I think you can do the concert as soon as you get Fargo, and until the end of the game. But even so, it's probably in the ending where Kid and Serge help out with the conert, being as Serge's group is in the audience, not in the show itself. (Yes, I'm sure, I did the conecrt like a week ago)
