Guardian Crest (Traced) + Flag
« on: October 09, 2010, 07:24:07 am »
Guardia is a Kingdom, so it obviously has a crest/seal. The problem is that it isn't shown until the FMV - Fall of Guardia, and since I couldn't find a full res picture of the crest I traced over the picture myself for the Compendium.

Here's both raster and SVG. Like I said I simply traced over it (and possibly corrected a few things) so if anybody thinks "something isn't right" then either tell Toriyama that or improve the design on your own. XD

Hmm strange, SVG isn't an allowed filetype? Why?

EDIT: Click here for the flag.

Nice work!

Why do I have a hankering to paste a decal of that on random cars?

...I think it's a phoenix.

The colors, Duke! They used black for the ash and red and yellow for the flames.

Maybe they were planning on the fall of Guardia all along? Guardia isn't in 1999 or 2300. Evidence already suggests that the humans constantly have a desire to control life, Crono (kind of) being reborn like a phoenix, becoming immortal was Zeal's goal. You could maybe retcon it to represent the frozen flame? The flying fire that rises from the ashes...of any civilization it touches!

That's a stretch, I know, but why would they choose a crest like that? There are no phoenixes (phoenices?) in trigger, true. There are also no dragons, but there ARE monsters. They chose not to use any mystics but instead a creaure that is mythological even in the Chrono world (until CC of course). With Zeal's crest symbolizing the Mammon Machine, or vice versa, a great emphasis is placed on the meaning of the crest, even from the first time you see a sealed door in the future. Perhaps that was just Kato making his part intense, but I think it means the Guardia crest is as important to the themes of the game. So, yeah. Phoenix.

Any thoughts?

I recall I asked tushantin whether it is a dragon or a bird.

Yeah, I like your idea, Mr Bekkler.

Bekker brings up a true point. I always interpreted it as a dragon of sorts but I can see the phoenix being another potential. I always interpreted Guardia not being around in the future as either the kingdom changed as it grew it became more of a government much like you'd see in European countries with a monarch but a parliament made most of the governing choices. Perhaps it lead to the ultimate dissolving of the monarchy and Chronopolis eventually came from it being named from the Hero of the World (Chrono as per the original Japanese translation.) Tis my two cents... either way... Love the crest to this day <3

I took it more as though Belthasar had named it the "City of Time" cause he likes calling things Chrono, but that's cool too! In my mind, Gaspar had his invention and was like "Dudes, check what I made! It's totally a Time Egg!" And Belthasar's all "Yeaaaah, but you know what would be more impressive sounding and ominous? How bout a  Chrono Trigger?"

Can you imagine their surprise when they later meet a guy NAMED Chrono (for some reason) and then to find out it needs to be used to ressurect him? "At least we didn't call it the 'BTW-Zeal-is-Going-to-Fall Device'. Oh SHI- -"

I agree that's another possible truth to the naming. Belthasar did love his "Time" names... I suppose calling the Epoch his "Wings of Chrono" might have seemed a little much for the audience. You can't over-throw the name too too much, you know? Nevermind the hero and the device needed to ressurect him later in the game... Go figure, eh?

Either way, yeah I suppose it's better to have been that way versus your alternative. LoL

It's just cool how the story can make so much sense but so many people draw different conclusions about what connects the dots. That's why it's the best game in the world.
