Schala-Kid personality?
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:09:22 am »
I'm not asking here about Schala and Kid getting merged in Chrono Cross, I'm asking about the Kid from Radical Dreamers after she got her memories back. Since this version of Kid is not a separate entity from Schala, I don't think this is the same situation.  How would Kid be affected after the events of Le Trésor Interdit?  would she remember her years as Schala as her own memories(very vivid), or as the memories of someone else(distant, dissociated, maybe even dreamlike)? Is it like getting back the memories of a past life (sort of like a reincarnation)? or like repressed memories(recovered memories from a traumatic event)? I wonder how exactly would having her memories back would affect her personality, obviously it's something that would change her permanently... Would Schala-Kid be a mellower version of Kid? a more assertive Schala? Would their opposite personality traits nullify each other creating someone completely different?  I'm curious because I have been trying to write a fanfic, but I'm not sure how to approach this.

I would like to answer your questions, but just to find you answered them pretty much.

they were all just suggestions, possibilities, ha ha ha   I'm not sure which one of all those answers could be the most adequate one, if any

Well, I think you thought what a normal player would have thought.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you on this point. But as your read in game (the elevator scene), the two different (and separated) personalities actually struggled within -- both want to emerge to the surface. She even didn't realize what she was talking about.

At the end of the game, the two finally merged as one.

"....
Ah...who?
Fate...?
Life...?
I'm not even sure myself...
But I didn't mean Lynx or any specific thing.
I can't explain that well...sometimes I feel like there's another myself inside me, it is always watching, quietly, no matter how stupid my actions are...
I feel... it sounds like a funny story..."

"In this world, there's no such things as 'certain' or 'absolute',no one can make such an assertion, no matter who. But....thank you, Serge."

Because Schala had been sent into the future and literally grew up again I suppose the Schala memories would be like a past life,  but I don't think they'd be any less important, I still think they'd be vivid and they might possibly fuel kid's anger further, or vanquish it. I think the personalities would merge but not result so much as a mellower kid but perhaps a wiser one or a more assertive Schala. It's hard to tell but I think it'd lead in a more patient kid/schala on pms. XD I guess a mellower kid now that I think about it. Not so rash.

I think the most cherished thing of her Schala life would be Magus/Magil, she might be angry of her past actions, obeying her mother so much etc. Schala had an innocence about her Kid lost. Much of Kid's personality resulted in the loss of Lucca and the vengeance she wanted, I'm not sure that would go away even with the schala memories, but perhaps the memories would relax her just a little.

More assertive and adventurous than Schala, but calmer and more at peace with herself than Kid. And from the ending text, very philosophical. That's how I view her anyhow.

And she retains Kid's accent, like that in CC's ending.

Because Kid and Schala aren't separate people in RD, I think it's better to think of Kid as Schala with a different history. Schala is still clearly there, Serge says something like "she really shines when she wants to" and talks about her nice side. The confused memories make her feel like there's a separate person there watching her, the Chrono Trigger helped her realize the memories were really hers, and that's the treasure she got.

It might help to think of it as Kid is to Schala as Magus is to Janus. In a story where Magus's personality grows a little nicer (like Magil in RD, for example), you shouldn't say he reverted to his Janus personality, because he was always Janus.

It's too bad the same cannot be said of the Kid/Schala relationship in CC. :(

Kid's character, like a lot of things in CC, just seems pointlessly tragic. She's given the chance to be her own person, but has no way to avoid the fate of being a blonde-haired vessel for Schala.
