Interesting tidbit I noticed in CT
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:12:41 pm »
I'm playing Chrono Trigger again and I just saw something I've never seen happen before - I used Fire Zone/Ring of Fire and selected a target (the only one in range), but while I was doing this Crono got attacked by and then countered against that target and killed it. The tech had already been confirmed, but there was no target, so everyone just stood there and shook their heads.

I'm not sure what techs depend on an enemy nearby so I don't know how rare this is to see.

Interesting. XD Never saw that happen before. Is it possible to reproduce that glitch?

It doesn't sound like a glitch, see here: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,8945.0.html

Congratulations, Crono288. So the missing animations are there for reason like that.

Are there any other techs that can only target enemies "in-range"?

Also, the specific situation was: on the 600AD scene on Zenan bridge, in the fight with the four skeleton enemies (name escapes me), only one was "in-range" for Fire Zone.  I selected and confirmed the attack at the same time as that same skeleton attacked Crono (who was wearing a Wrath Band), so Crono's (lethal) counterattack came before the tech and since there was no longer a target, the attack "failed".  I'd guess that the animation was probably left in as a fallback for any situation where a tech somehow tried to target an enemy that wasn't there and couldn't choose another, to prevent crashing.

I didn't realize people hadn't seen the "miss" before. I get it all the time, it's not a special fail-safe or anything, it's the standard
"miss".

The easiest way to get it is to use Charm more than once, I think.

I'd guess a lot of people assume that's a special think for Charm rather than a standard placeholder.

I believe you also get this if you try to use Ayla's Throw on something unthrowable (flying enemies, black tyrano, lavos, etc).

Also, they use the same animation if you try to run through a wall.
