I recently got Starbound for Christmas. It's a $15 indie game on Steam whose developers are comprised of some of the team of Terraria. Starbound is a 2D side scroller open world survival game with Minecraft-like gameplay, like its "predecessor", Terraria. The difference with Starbound though is interstellar travel amongst a vast universe comprised of different planets. Each planet has a certain biome atmosphere (ie. forest, jungle, snow, tundra, tentacles, volcanic, magma, desert, adia, moon, asteroid field) that your character beams down on from their spaceship. Your character can be one of six races, with human being among them. I don't know any differences other than cosmetic ones, but beta is beta.
Starbound has an incredibly easy modding feature consisting of mostly JSON and some Lua for custom scripting. With this, there's been a ton of new content added to the game, including new races, items, biomes, or general UI alterations. I want to pitch my ideas for a Chronoverse mod, and possibly implement some myself, if not all of it.
