Is Magus better off in the CTDS ending?
« on: June 11, 2015, 07:39:22 pm »
Just something I've been thinking about lately: If Guile truly is an amnesiac Magus, as CTDS's new ending seems to suggest, then while he may not remember or recognize Schala, he also has no memory of Zeal, Lavos, or even his dark life in the middle ages.

Is this really such a bad thing? Going from a tragedy magnet with skeletons in the closet, to a mystery-obsessed adventurer with a blank slate? Judging by Guile's reaction to the Frozen Flame, read in the context of CTDS, he doesn't handle the knowledge of Janus well and seems to reject it. Whether or not this means he has any idea who Schala is later on, or if she went to seek him out is completely up in the air. Perhaps she feels the same, even though they could both be standing right next to each other?

On the other hand, if anyone could remind Guile and help him come to terms with all that information coming back, Schala would definitely be the perfect candidate.

Originally guile was planned to be revealed janus but they opted not to go with that story arc for some reason that escapes me right now.

One version of Magus, the one in the original/Lavos timeline tried to summoned Lavos alone in his castle, then that weird Gate probably also happened in that timeline and he went back to 12.000 BC, but without Crono and company never arriving there in that timeline, he went to battle Lavos alone in the Undersea Temple and probably got killed.
One version of Magus that didn't forget about Sara/Schala supposedly appears in Cross, or at least his shadow, in the Lucca letter to Kid scene. So he's still looking out for his sister (in the form of Kid).
One version of Magus, the one from the Crono-changing-the-future timeline (Keystone T-2 Magus), after Lavos' defeat he entered the closing Gate, and the group thought he went looking for Sara. He probably end up in the End of Time and from there on his whereabouts is unconfirmed.
One version of Magus shows up in the Time's Eclipse, tries to free Sara from Lavos and later forget everything and end-up anywhere around 600 A.D to 1000 A.D... This version could be the Magus from Keystone T-2?
Anyway... I like to believe that this one, if he's not Alf/Guile, he's Serge ancestor. That maybe he's even Wazuki (that would be cool as f**k). That would explain Sara connection to Serge in the moment he got to Dead Sea crying. But then again... the Serge and Kid wedding would become a little weird... I don't know.

Seems all his version are surrounded by tragedy, from beginning to end. Poor Jyaki/Magus.
