Did Serge (and Kid) exist in Chrono Trigger Timeline ?
« on: March 29, 2016, 11:33:35 am »
Hi guys !

As a big fan of Chrono Trigger-Cross plot, I really wanted to ask you if you have an answer/opinion about this question.

After all these years, I keep wondering if El Nido and all its inhabitants already existed (in an entirely different way of course) in the timeline without the timecrash...

When he was exploring the Timeline with FATE and before altering the timeline with the timecrash, did Belthasard already see Serge's existence in the 11th century - and Schala's magnetic storm when he was attacked by the panther demon in 1006 AD maybe (even if it didn't save him because Chronopolis wasn't accessible) ?

We know that Chronopolis member staff were the first El Nido settlers in Chrono Cross Timeline, but what about Chrono Trigger Timeline ? Were they inhabitants or settlers to ? Was there a boy named Serge who died from the panther demon, because his father found nothing to help him ? Did El Nido ever exist ?

If not, it a little weird to say that Belthasard triggered the timecrash on purpose.
Ok, it allowed him to access the precious Dragon Tear, but still...

Also, I don't remember if Schala gave birth to Kid in order to help Serge or just to send a "message in a bottle"...
Or in other words, if Serge didn't exist in Chrono Trigger timeline, did Kid at least exist ?

I think she existed because otherwise :
1) Belthasard would have no reason to call his project "Project Kid" before triggering the timecrash in 2300 AD
2)It would be a little weird if Schala created Kid to help baby Serge in 1006 AD, because Kid is only 2 years old at that time...

What do you think ?
I'm sorry if this subject was already discussed countless times.

Well, it is possible some people may have still existed without El Nido, but only since while El Nido natives don't leave the islands in general thanks to the Records of Fate, nothing is said about mainlanders not staying. So for example, from the people we see in-game that live on the islands but came from the mainland, most likely those would've still existed.

About El Nido, no, it couldn't have existed before the Time Crash, since it was a post-timetravel Chronopolis who built them in the first place, except for Gaea's Navel (already existed) and Sky Dragon Island (it's Terra Tower placed mostly underwater).

And going with Radical Dreamers, there was indeed a Serge to exist without an El Nido. Granted, not as we know him, he's quite different. But then again, different time line and stuff.

Kid would exist, and most likely certainly did, as both the CT animated ending and RD showed. Considering it was the result of Schala's actions after merging with Lavos in the DBT, it's result is only dependant on CT's events happening.

Thanks for your answer man !

Actually, what bother me is to think that Belthasar triggered the Time Crash and installed the Prometheus Circuit on purpose in 2300 AD, without being able to know about Serge and his connection with Schala in 1006 AD.

If we assume that panther demons only exist in El Nido (but maybe not), it means that the connection between Serge and Schala only exist if Serge lived on El Nido. In other words : in the "Time Crash Timeline" only.

So basically, it means that Belthasar triggered his plan in 2300 AD - while he still was in Chrono Trigger Timeline ! - without knowing who will be the "Prometheus Circuit chosen one", and without knowing about the existence of the magnetic storm in 1006 AD that will allow the Prometheus Circuit to enter into action.

But maybe it's effectively the case after all.

Maybe Belthasar triggered the Time Crash in order to give access to the Dragon Tear to an hypothetical chosen one in the first place, and then made a bet about the existence of this chosen one...

Maybe Belthasar originally planned an other way than the magnetic storm to run the Prometheus Circuit and lure FATE, and then the magnetic storm in 1006 AD happened to be a lucky break...

Or maybe the plan to use the magnetic storm, Serge and the Prometheus Circuit was only established after the Time Crash, in 12 000 BC, thanks to Belthasar being able to use the Neo Epoch and to see Serge's existence in the future from here...
