Edit: I forgot to explain how to edit the starting equips/element grids.
here goes...
Equips: to give Glenn, for example: Einlanzer. Just put 3f 00 or 40 00. 40 is the 2 dual wielding ones, but it doesn't actually give him those. Oh well!

Element Grid Layout: As you might have guessed?! Glenn is my favorite character. Then Steena. But I digress! to give Sprigg, for example, a grid layout that is identical to Glenn or Steena, heck even Serge... just give Sprigg the exact values of any desired. for about 16 bytes. at 13b73038. that is Glenn's grid location on disc 1. Nice!?
Sprigg's is 13b73628... just fill in all desired spells up to where you see "00 00 7B 00 32 14 00 00" DO NOT GO PAST OR ERASE THIS AREA.

Now finally... Elements: the places where you see stuff like 00 40 are what you want. To give anyone a starting elem. Of "Max Defense" for example. Just input 95 40.
Now for stuff like "Step Down" put 64 41. Never erase the "4" cause that's needed... whew! that's it! hope I helped someone enjoy this game more!
