Insanely easy way to defeat Son of Sun

i beat him easy without any red or ruby equip, just the top aoen equip or whatever i had at the time, cant really remember, it was pretty easy really.

Same here. I probably had high levels, though.

Doesn't really take all that much time to level build in Chrono Trigger.

Lol, or, you could beat Son of Sun the emulator way... Save state, and if you pick the wrong flame, reload your state until you do!

The first time I played through on emulation and did this i SOOO felt like I was cheating (which really, it is).

Never found that fight hard really.  Even on 1st-time through.  Once I saw it was 99% fire attacks (just that "beam" isn't) I just put red mail and vest on, then something with high magic-resistance on the 3rd member (didn't have prism dress at the time, so maybe I just had a guy with high health/resistance) and just did it.  1st time w/o all 3 having "red" armour was hardest, but definitely possible, and not "omg that's SOOO hard".
