First time you soloed Time Devourer?

I just did it, at the beginning of my fourth play through and I nearly died (was careless - I really should have equipped a green plate. Would have helped with 3/4's of the battle.) Though the developer's ending was a lot of fun to see.

Yeah, I tried that my first time using New Game +. I didn't have a plate. It was hard, I must've used every single stocked healing element possible to survive without a plate, but I did it.

First play through: Green plate, Star Fragment...wait, you don't start out w/that do you? Then it was either a Plaster or Antitoxinal Cap...or maybe it was just a Yellow or Green Brooch, yeah, that makes more sense...Hmm...Anyways, the rest would be Spectral Swallow (of course), and probably a Stamina Belt and/or Ring (so the battle didn't go on forever exactly).

i did it first newgame+ without any of the plates its easier if you have plenty of holy heals and supernovas. but it was difficult the first time still.

The biggest challenge I found hin fighting him was the amount of his HP...and also not realizing that recharges only worked for elements <level 6 (and nearly all of my elements were level 6+).

He pwned me a few times... It was annoying. I wish I had the goddamn Mastermune. But nooo, it doesn't carry-on to New Game + >_>;

My best advice would probably be equip the Green Plate. For the first half of the battle, those are the *only* elements he uses against you. And once you get to the point where he's using multi colors, you won't have wasted your healing elements/MagNegates. I didn't use the Green Plate, and I barely managed it. Reflecting back, the Green Plate would have made it extremely easy, actually.

I never fought him solo, cuz the game doesnt work anymore...I used the green plate on Serge while fighting in a team and he was nearly never near critical HP. The only problem is that i donno what the chrono cross is good for (some kind of use all different elements for uber attack?). TD didnt seem strong, because u have always time to heal or something before the TD attacks a 2nd time.

The Spectral Swallow's better anyway.

The only noticeable* difference I've seen in the Spectra Swallow and the Mastermune was that the Mastermune would hit higher heavy ("3") attacks, so the Spectra Swallow is just as good if not better than the MasterMune anyways.

*I know there are statistics that show the Mastermune has a higher critical rate yada yada yada...I'm just saying this is what I *personally* saw.

yeah after serge gets his body back on any of my playthroughs his crit chance is boosted to 70% or so for some reason even without the mastermune

I don't quite remember if it was in my first or second new game+... I think it was in my second though, for I remember that it was ridiculously easy... with no plates at all x) just keeping hp always +-maxed...
