Go
« on: March 10, 2011, 04:46:54 pm »
I've come into some free time lately, so I've made a habit of getting royally fucking crushed at Go once per day at Yahoo games. I've finally got the basics, and now begins the long, long, interminable road to strategy. This will force me to develop my patience and long-term tactical faculties.

Goddamn, I hate losing, though. I finally understand it enough to make defensive games (where I don't get wiped off the board from ill-conceived dogfighting), but fuck, a victory would really help my morale. I'm just amazed at how drawn I am by this game. I keep losing in frustration (doing better every time, of course), but it's like the losses are doing nothing to faze some implacable desire to be good. The benefits of learning strategy and having a more lucid, thoughtful mind are too good to pass up.

The Tron: Legacy soundtrack goes so well with these games.

Anyone else play?

I love turn-based strategy games, but, to be honest, you're the first person I've heard of who actually plays Go.  If I knew some other people who played it, I might be persuaded to make the time investment in learning the game.

Hah, I love Go and Othello! But frankly, I'm a loser in board games.
