Site issues

Thanks to that idiot who uploaded a White Stripes album, the Compendium's media server has been audited for copyrighted material. You may have to deal with broken links for a while. It's a little ironic, I guess; everyone expected Square Enix to be the one to ultimately give us problems. If you have innovative hosting solutions or real webspace, you might as well PM me just in case. I suppose it's fitting this terrible situation has been caused by a terrible band.

Ah, the flank attack! The choicest cut of flabby flesh of them all--and a mockery of even the strongest breast. Diabolical...

Sheesh, this guy should know that music albums belong on yousendit or megaupload.com, not a server like this one

Well, remember that it's the Compendium's media server, not our real one. The media is where all the huge files are kept and other stuff is archived. right now, it seems like they just flagged every video for deletion without bothering to check what they are. I think it's being taken care of.

That's so retarded. I don't mean this to be offensive in any way, but why on Earth would anybody be auditing such a harmless site like this? It's not like we're all notorious thieves, like the sites Chrono'99 mentioned. I guess they figure the smaller sites are easier to go after than that anonymous clusterfxck of unrestricted file uploading, where copyright infringement is just another notch in the dashboard of pissing-everybody-off.

Maybe there should be more stringent limits on who exactly can add to the servers, to prevent this sort of incident in the future. It's pathetic that someone should have to do such a thing, but unfortunately, not everybody can be trusted to keep their hands on the steering wheel of sanity at all times.

Oh well.
Just be thankful that this hasn't happened more often — ZeaLitY is blessed that only a very few of his forumites were dropped by their mothers down the Stupid Stairs and knocked in the head by every damn one on the way down. >/

We weren't targeted specifically. We're allowed to use Herograw's server to host stuff, but so are lots of other people. Zeality puts a lot of heavy bandwidth stuff on there. In other words, we're just collateral damage in this whole affair.

The site hosting for the Compendium itself isn't trusted with anyone except Zeality and myself, whether it's FTP access or the SQL server. We try to do this with everything. I don't even have access to Herograw's server, and I don't ask for it.

That's about as stringent as it gets, but you can't go through life without trusting anyone at all.

Very true.

Also, sounds like you guys have it taken care of, but if you ever need some web space, just let me know.
