I think Crono's drapes are being over analyzed, but whoever said the closing and opening of Crono's symbolized his life and death was at least half right.

Think about how much "choices" are a crucial part of Chrono Trigger. There are so many things you can do to change how the story plays out.

For one, how you play Crono during the Millenium Fair will put his character in a good or bad light later at the trial.

You can decide to revive Crono or not. Depending on what you choose will alter your experience and your ending.

You can choose to recruit Magus or kill him. This will either let you play the game with a new character, or give Frog his revenge and remove his curse and the end of the game.

Then of course there are the many sidequests that allow you to go back in time and change things, hopefully, for the better. Saving Lucca's mom comes to mind.

The point I'm trying to make is that the drapes are symbolic. You can choose to have the drapes closed or open. While it has no impact on the characters of stories, it symbolizes that this is a story of choices. This insignificant act of closing drapes may not be important, but they are trying to tell you there might be something later in the game that may seem insignificant but will actually have a huge impact. Going back in time and giving away a piece of beef jerky for free to influence a future man's generosity comes to mind.

And apparantly, someone didn't spend enough. I'll apologize for bumping a dead thread, even though I think you're a hypocrite because you've now contributed to keeping it bumped, but I don't see what the big deal was for me to give my opinion in a thread asking if there is a deeper significance to Crono's drapes. Though I may have over analyzed, I was merely answering the question.

But again, sorry for bumping the thread. I'll see it doesn't happen again.

Well, thats what The Dream Team did with the drapes. Get it? ...guys...stop yelling at each other. Who cares if he bumps an old post, as long as he has something important to say? Personally I'd rather see a useful post bump an old thread instead of a useless post keep an already active thread alive.

Personally I don't really care about the drapes. You CAN look at it that way, but...I was always just saw it as another cool thing about Crono's room. You can sleep in the bed for free, you can play with the clone, you can toggle the Poyozo Dolls music, you can open and close the drapes, you can have additional cats...nothing special or out of the ordinary. I mean honestly, was there anything else in the game or anywhere to contribute the idea that maybe the drapes were there purely as a symbol of "choice"?

Forgive, wise and powerful user of the internet. I wasn't aware you were so closely aligned with the development team. Now that you've cleared this up for us we can move on.

Seriously, people, it's time to take a step back and say 'Am I looking into this a bit too much?' when you start to consider that opening some goddamn curtains is a deep and meaningful plot point, especially when there's so much more in the game that you could be looking in to.

They're not a deep meaningful plot point. I said they're symbolic. Read a book or even a short story by a well-known classic author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Poe, Ernest Hemingway to name a few, and you'll see how objects and other things that seem insignificant can take on a deeper meaning.

I can't believe I wasted 10-15 minutes of my life reading this post... then again, it made me laugh a bit so it wasn't a total loss I suppose :P



My vote goes with the "cool interactive thing-a-ma-jig (note: not actual wording)" idea, I very much doubt they were doing it as a symbol. But a game is something different to each person, so interpret as you see fit.
