Dream thread

Simple.

Had a dream that I fell in love with a girl named Geneviève in a somewhat midsize town in the 60's. She was vivacious, beautiful, strong -- but she fell in with the wrong crowd and became hooked to some sort of drug that came in gumballs. I tried to tell her and convince her to stop, but she would not; the chronology of events took place two times -- in the first, her life was ruined, and she ended up as a hairdresser. In the second run of the timeline, she outright died in the sixties after overdosing. The third time, I intervened myself, taking her entire supply of drugs away and committing her to some sort of rehabilitation clinic. She hated me; I had to wrestle her to the ground once when she got out. But after the bad crowd finally left her, we were together. Eventually, we decided to move to "Miami Vice, Florida" as seen in a brochure. It was hard resisting the bad crowd as they tried to push the drugs on her or debase me for denying her pleasure. Another difficulty came in her obstinate father, who didn't like her. But I was determined, and I saved her life. Again, the difficulty lay in preventing a person from exercising her own free will; the difference was that I had apparently time traveled or something, and knew that she would die. I also told someone else who was fated to die in a car crash about his destiny, and he subsequently skipped town.

It was a strange dream, but the happiness of having her finally quit the addiction and take control of her life was great. After we decided to move to "Miami Vice" (hah), the dream ended peacefully. I didn't even open my eyes; I simply woke up, realized I had an extra consciousness going, and decided all was complete and right with that dream.

I dreamed that I was making out with B5's Commander Susan Ivanova.  Which was OK by me until she somehow morphed into this one chick I know that's ugly as fuck.  I'm still feeling a little nauseous; wasn't feeling too good yesterday, either, after 16 hours spent helping a friend move.  I think the dream had pizza in the later parts.  I don't think I've ever had a dream any more meaningful than that, honestly.

Once I dreamt that I was wandering this barren field with my friends. The field was filled with metallic debris. Short towers of scrap metal jutting into the air 10 or so feet and etc.

Though not recent, I had a dream about CC in which I was standing on the beach with Kid and she said something along the line of todays preparation determines tomorrows achievement. Her voice was that of the girl I had a crush on but never talked to because her friends hated me.

Some dreams are good and some totally wack. Has anyone ever been in total control of their dream?

That's called lucid dreaming. I've been able to pull it off at least twice in my life, but some people can do it on command. It's hard to stay asleep when you know you're asleep.

Yes! Lucid dreaming, thanks Lord J! I totally forgot the word used to describe it. I had one of those falling of of your bed dreams in which you seem to falling into a never ending void of nothing-ness. But this particular time I could fly, and when I woke up in mid-dream, half my body was hanging over the side of the bed.

It's fascinating how we can remember something in which we did not even take part in the real world, like the reality being myself typing this post. But when we fall asleep and enter our dream world, can it be just memories and images intertwining and coming together to form the actual dream? I'd like to post just two things that are a puzzle to me but I would also like everyone here to help me out to see if they've experienced it before.

#1 My brother and his wife told me that both of them had the same dream. They could be lying but why would they lie about something so stupid.

#2 I had various dreams in the past which seemed to tell my future. Bare with me here . . . I had a Pole Vault accident which resulted in a scar above my eye and a scar on my arm. I went to physical therapy after to recooperate. Since I also hurt my right shoulder, I think the rotator cuff, I was doing an excercise in which my right hand was on a medicine ball while my left hand was flat on some double door that housed therapy equipment. I was doing wall push-ups to strengthen the shoulder area. There were two individuals in the room along with me. My therapist and some other girl getting treated. They were talking about the Soccer complex down in the basement. When I turned away from them still continuing my push-up routine, I stared into crack of the double doors. I obviously could no see anything but as I stared at that small blackness, something triggered a memory that I had already done this before. At first I did not reaize, but I soon caught on. I had a dream about this SAME event taking place. The people were different but the words were EXACT. It was that feeling of déjà vu in which I had already done that before, but it wasn't anything like that Star Trek TNG episode, Cause and Effect, if you know what I am talking about.

Lucid dreaming is kinda weird for me. Usually when I'm having a nightmare or a dream I don't like, at some point I just think "ok, this dream sucks" and consciously force my eyes open (usually I stay asleep during nightmares because they're usually the most interesting ones). It's weird because I kinda know I'm dreaming, but then in a way I don't.  :o

I can only control whether or not I dream. Or, more accurately, whether or not I remember what I dream. I've never been able to make myself be able to control what happens in a dream or what a dream is about either before or during...

Once I had a dream about some kind of weird zombie orgy...I remember one zombie thing had slapped the ripped off face of another while it was happening. One of the more fucked up dreams I remember...besides the one about fucking a dead Pamela Anderson...Which is weird because I don't really like her at all...*shrugs*

Sometimes two (or more) people will have dreams that are similar enough in imagery and mood so as to make it seem as though these were the "same" dream. They are not the same dream. Instead, this is the result of statistical probability playing itself out: It's like getting dealt a good hand in poker. It does happen, people will have similar dreams from time to time, and it always stands out when it happens. In comparison, we don't tend to notice the hundreds of dreams that bear no resemblence to other people's. From time to time you can expect to have dreams that appear similar to somebody else's. This is almost certainly what happened to your brother and sister-in-law.

#2 ...At first I did not reaize, but I soon caught on. I had a dream about this SAME event taking place. The people were different but the words were EXACT. It is very common for our dreams to recur from time to time. Usually the recurrence is partial, infused with new elements, like what you describe above. When a dream recurs, it is not an omen of the future to come. It is, rather, an insight into the working of your mind. These recurring images are often tied to your deepest passions, your strongest fantasies, your biggest problems, or your greatest vulnerabilities. If you can remember these images, you might be able to learn a little more about yourself. And, like a groove in the road, the more often a dream recurs, the more likely it is to recur again.

Beware the superstitious. There are many people who believe that dreams can tell the future, yet for all their belief there is still no scientific grounding for it, and the far more likely answer is that they are forcing the experience to fit their interpretation, rather than the other way around.

I had a dream that my parents died, and that I got my hot cousin (who doesn't exist) to look after me. We had fun :)

Lord J, thanks for taking to time to answer my post. I guess it can't hurt to be a little superstitious here and there but I won't have it get the best of me. I find dreams odd but enjoyable.
