Chrono Cross: The Good, The Bad, and The Fans
« on: June 22, 2006, 07:50:04 pm »
You have heard the complaints yourself: The game isn’t a true sequel to Chrono Trigger; the plot is confusing and riddled with holes; there are too many characters and yet none of our favorites, such as Crono and Magus; the music is boring and less epic; time travel was not a part of the gameplay; the list goes on and on. Is there any substance to these complaints? We can all agree that the game has its flaws, but what exactly are those flaws? To put it simply, are we dealing with a great game, or aren’t we? At last the Compendium has undertaken to resolve this vital question. Find the answer here in the latest feature of the Compendium.

How can the music be "more thoughtful toward the listener's intellect"? :/
That sounds like made-up jibberish to me.

I'd log in but i can't find my name and passwrd right now

Cross is set in the same universe and cannon, but not a true sequel since it's story line is only peripheraly close to the origional and involves none of the same characters.  Strictly speaking a sequel should involve the original to a greater degree.  Still a good game though

I loved the music. It had more of an easy listening feel to it and could get emotions across pretty well. The plot actually has holes to allow for having so many characters involved in the game. They had to make it so you could go with two different parties and still get the same result.

After reading the facts about the CC, there's one thing I could say, CC is a Gaiden or Sidestory. CC is great game & an exellently made story but there's one thing that I don't like about CC is the character design. It's the only expectation that disappoints me when I  first played this game.

Same here, I was kinda expecting another time traveling adventure. Dimension hopping is fun, but I was expecting a lot more dungeons. Too many of them were a mirror image save for some background changes.

Just wasn't Trigger without Toriyama artwork, Frog, Magus, and yes, of course, the time travelling.

every game has its flaws saying CC wasn't that great cause it didnt have this or this that was in CT i stupidity. i remember when you people complained about the ppl who acted in such a way seeing some of you doing exactly that now is shameful.

im happy that CCwas different from CT cause clone games which always have the same ideas become really boring. and those complaining that it dosnt have the same characters get over it im sick of ppl who wanted CC to be another CT instead of a game that further expanded the world and story from CT.

for those of you who didnt complain gratz you managed to see the gaem for what it really was not just somthing that wasnt what you wanted or expected.

and personally i prefer CC art style over CTs, i just think that CCs fits the whole chrono universe better though CTs was fineits just not someting i can see in 3D and CC in cell shading which is the only time it does fit would be mergh.

Whoops, sorry. I was just disappointed after playing Trigger, but I do see your point.

No, it wasn't a clone game. :(

But it had clone dungeons. :x

It needed to have more diversity between dimensions, kinda like how Viper Manor in Home World was a smoldering ruin while it was still in tip-top shape in Another.

a parralel world is one that is exactly the same yet different choices have been made altering the was ythings happen. its kinda hard not to have clone dungeons but yeah.

I think Viper Manor should have played a bigger role, I mean, RD took place completely in there!

It deserves more importance, methinks.

I would like to make a brief comment on the theories made about the suppossed marrage between Serga and Schala/Kid as stated here.

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Chrono_Cross_Resolutions.html

Alot of the theories and counter theories made in that page revolved around the assumption that Serge is the dude in the background and that Schala/Kid is wearing a wedding gown.

However, I have never, personally, looked at that picture that way before.  Let me break it down for you and you tell me what you think.  This theory is very simple, really.  And I'm sure this theory has floated around the other CT boards as well.

First off, Schala is a Zealian.  And for those of you that have played Chrono Trigger, you'd remember that Zealians, of every class, wore some kind of robe or gown.  This is pretty much fact unless there is evidence that proves otherwise.  So if that chick in the chair is really Schala (with or without Kid reinfused), I would think that she would probably wear garmets reminisent of her nationality.  However, this is just speculation on my part.

Secondly, isn't there a certain scythe wielding magician that nearly every CT fan is obsessed with that we're forgetting?  Somebody by the name of Janus?  You know, the guy that starts his search for Schala at the end of Chrono Trigger and is never heard from again? (except in Radical Dreamers, but that isn't canon as Chrono Cross had already covered that in Chronopolis)  Perhaps, at some point after the events of Chrono Cross, they reunite?  This could also have been one of the many things Chrono Break could have covered if they ever bothered to make the damn game.  Hell, look at the picture.  That dude in the background seems to have awfully long hair.  About the same length as, you know who.  Again, just speculation.  But it would cover that problematic love triangle between Serge, Lenna, and Kid that was mentioned in that page.

I'd also like to make this little mention about the ending.

Right before you fight the Time Devourer, you have the option to talk to Lucca. (or what's left of her)  She plainly states that Kid was put solely in the world to call Serge into Another World and set everything into motion.  And right at the every end of the ending, you see Kid (perhaps Schala infused) standing at Opassa Beach with what seems to be a wedding gown on. (a more traditional looking one then in that picture)  I'm thinking, that perhaps, to set things full circle, she was standing there to call Serge over just like what had happened from when you saw it from Serge's point of view at the beginning of the game.  Furthermore, when you first arrive in another world, Kid is nowhere to be seen and when you do see her, she's at Cape Howl.  I sincerely doubt that she silently tailed Serge from Opassa Beach to Cape Howl after just accomplished what she was supposed to do without realizing what was going on.

So, if my theory of a future Kid calling Serge over is correct, that would mean that what Kid/Schala said at the ending of meeting in another time and place would fit.  Because once this gowned Kid called Serge over, her job was done and she would likely never see him again.

Now if you're wondering how a future Kid could call Serge over to set things in motion when both of the worlds run on the same timeline, you're forgetting about her pendent.  Lucca explains that her pendent shifts her back alittle bit through time whenever Kid is in danger or mortally wounded.  I would think, that if Schala was remerged with Kid, she'd be able to use her pendent at will.  Again, just mere speculation.

Anyways, I hope I've made my theories clear enough and easy to understand.  I thank you for bothering to read them.

You got a point on what you said but it's out of topic. Try writing this on the appropriate topic.
