The Big Face

Who or what is that big face on the bottom of Dinopolis that talks briefly to your party in Chrono Cross?  Are there any theories?

Question: What was the true form of that huge face that called out to Serge in Terra Tower?

Answer: In the initial design, it was planned to be another character but it became one of the researchers in the game.

That's all we know. What's interesting is that this face knows Serge's name...

There might some other information in Missing Piece (there's a "Unused Characters" page), but unfortunately, it's all in Japanese and apparently nobody wants to translate it.

It's pure speculation, but look at the second picture on this page about the beta version:

It's hard to tell because of the poor quality of the picture, but the mysterious person who's in Belthasar's place in the library looks suspiciously like one of those unused characters in my opinion (the boy does carry a book, though the person in the pic looks more like the girl)...

Again, it's pure speculation on my part though. The only official info we have is the little, evasive answer that Kato stated in the interview.
