I'm Hungry!
« on: February 20, 2007, 07:19:44 pm »
...so let's talk about food we like!

I've recently come across a neato use fer SPAM which I know is gonna make a lotta people either cheer or wretch.  :D

Take a can of SPAM or SPAM-like luncheon meat.  Slice it up all super-thin sliced.(A food processor works wonders fer this task!)  Put a small pan on yer stovetop an' let it get hot.  Pan fry th' SPAM like bacon.  Th' SPAM won't actually crinkle up like bacon, but it will become hot and crispy!  Once yer done, put th' pan-fried SPAM on to a plate lined with a paper towel.  Viola!  "Meat Chips"!  If ya do it right, it's not hugely greasy an' man is it delicious!

What's some of your favorite foods and/or ways to prepare it?  ^_^

Edit: I say "wretch" because SPAM was a common food fer soldiers ta eat due to th' fact it could keep fer exceedingly long periods of time.  Plus, some people jus' DON'T LIKE SPAM.

Yay, another forum to copy/paste my recipe onto:

Quote from: Recipe
The Substitute Name Family Potato Soup Recipe(Converted to modern, easy to obtain ingredients by The Guy Writing This.)

Ingredients:
Two Cups Brocolli
Five large Russet Potatoes
Two Cups Celery
One Cup Carrots(optional)
2 Sliced Precooked Chicken Breasts
1/2 Cup Mushrooms of your choice (optional)
1/2 Onion
1/2 Clove of Garlic
One Can Chicken Broth
One Can Cream of Mushroom Soup (If you are allergic or just don't like mushrooms, substitute Cream of Chicken instead.)
Two Cans Evaporated Milk
One Teaspoon Butter
A Small Amount Olive(or your choice) Oil
And the following seasonings in amounts of your choice:
Salt
Pepper
Cayenne Pepper
Italian Seasoning
Cloves
Parsley
Oregano
Tumeric
Red Curry

Directions:
Plop a huuuge pot on the stove. Wash and microwave the potatoes and carrots(optional, though this makes it far easier to slice them.)  Place the amount of olive oil into the pan, then chop up and toss in the onions and garlic. Turn on the heat to a medium level, add a small amount of water to prevent the onions and garlic from burning. Then, while they are cooking, slice up and toss in the potatoes, carrots, and celery. If you wish, slice the brocolli as well, though I prefer to merely toss them in whole. Then place in the chicken. Now here's a key for good cooking: you have to add all of the seasonings--except for salt and pepper--right now. Take a spoon of some sort--wooden is my choice--and mix it all up so the seasonings and the fixings spread nice and evenly. Then put a cover on, turn up the heat, and let it cook for a while. How long depends on where you are, your type of stove, and all that good stuff. Once the fixings have cooked, place the chicken broth, mushroom soup, and evaporated milk in, along with the butter. Stir it up, making sure to keep the fixings spread evenly. Add in the salt and pepper as needed, wait till it's all finished, and you're done! Enjoy.

Wrote that for one forum and yet I always find reasons to copy and paste it elsewhere.

Viola!

Why do you call Viola? It's been more than 3 years since he disappeared from the soccer scene, I don't see why he'd suddenly show up.

BTW, my nº 1 food are chili beans with cheese, onion and pepper!

Sometimes I get back from class and fall asleep, then wake up after the chow hall and the Kiosk are closed. That's usually when I pop open a can of SPAM and eat it with a spoon, although sometimes I'll order out. It's good emergency food.

How about some drink suggestions? Last year I stumbled upon this recipe:

2 cans Dr Pepper Berries & Cream, chilled
3/4 pint heavy whipping cream

Mix and enjoy. Goes well with pasta. For best results, consume often. Just don't expect to be able to do athletic stuff like standing up under your own power anymore.

For those who prefer non-obscene treats, I have had good experience with Honest Tea, a bottled tea that is surprisingly tea-like. Their berry and peach flavors are definitely worth trying.

Pie, of course. It's good, good for you, and extremely versitile.

Oh, and Dr Pepper is Prune Juice Soda!

You know what else goes well with pasta? Garlic, onions, and mushrooms, cut up and sauted in extra virgin olive oil and red wine. It might even delay the heart attack washing it all down with J Shakes will rush you toward.

Blah!  Mushrooms and garlic and onions imo are the worst things to go on pasta.  Then again, i'm a hater of all those >__>

Wow...hating on mushrooms, garlic, and onions in the same breath. Assuming you're not trolling this thread, I can only conclude that you were abused as a child. =P
