Is it really pushed to the side, or is it simply the case that other than the main characters, love interests never get fleshed out within the course of a video game.

There's exceptions, of course, such as Edge and Rydia in FFIV (such as it was, in any case), but by and large, the hero gets the girl, kills the baddies, and saves the entire planet.  Unless the context of the game expressly involves sexuality, the love lives of the characters are never really portrayed.

Therefore, I wouldn't necessarily say Magus' sexuality was pushed to the side.  He probably has needs just like most everyone else.

Heh, bet he's a sub.;)

This stirs up some mighty disturbing yet entertaining mental images all at once. Oh the possibilities...

Yeah, no kidding.  Although, as there's nothing new under the sun, I'm sure some fan fic types have already been down this road.  And the slash-fic folks.  And the yaoi fans.

He's to cold to be a sub. From my experience, subs are never cold(not as much as he is, at least).

The statue? Didn't they say that was the first mystic leader? I think it was in Chronopolis, if not I must be insane. or I came up with a good theory.

Yeah, that's true, but I never imagined him as being THAT cold all the time.  I figured he had to let his guard drop at some point or another.  Just never when he's "on".

I agree. It's obvious Magus has a wide range of emotions just as every other human has, it just seems he enjoys playing the tough guy act.

... A disturbing afterthought with the whole 'sub' thing is him and his sister. Wow.

That thought aside, I'm sure that alone Magus has some pretty emotional moments.

But he never(or better, rarely) shows them, that's what I call cold.

Yeah, I can imagine after a long, hard day of getting pushed around by her mom, Schala's probably ready to make someone her slave.

Wow. This thread went to kind of a weird place.

I take back what I said about Magus's sexuality, okay guys? You can stop punishing me.

Aww, c'mon!  It was all in good fun.

I was actually enjoying the ride.  I was curious as to just how far it could go.

I was alright with it up until the incest bit. For some reason that always makes me just a little uncomfortable.

Besides, Magus would totally be a... Dominator? Obviously not dominatrix. Dom? We'll say dom. He's always overcompensating, what with the icy demeanor and the giant phallic tower that maggiekarp pointed out to turning people into frogs for laughs. I bet it holds true in the bedroom, people aren't always the opposite of what they appear in there, are they?

No, they're not, and I do admit that stating that someone so dedicated to power must secretly desire to be dominated is not only a gross generalization, but also borders on cliche.  That being said, I still thought it was funny, so I went with it.

Now here's an item I struggle to wrap my head around.  I'm curious as to why we must identify towers as inherently phallic.  Space constraints demand that buildings be taller than they are long/wide.  Unless you want a sprawling, shopping mall like ediface, it's going to be built upwards.  I don't think that automatically has to make it a penis replacement.

I don't think you have to. I didn't ever think/say "Now thats a big one" after seeing a tall building.
